Chapter 85

Ares POV

The turmoil in my mind slowly settled when all I could feel was rage and this primal need to protect what is mine.

We were hiding in the shadows outside of Charlotte's packhouse, waiting for her warriors to leave.

Still, we would be outnumbered, but our odds were better with fifty of her warriors gone.

“They are here,” Jamie mumbled.

Only when my gaze met hers did I notice the glimmer that moved over her eyes. It wasn't the same as I saw her wolf press forward, but something else.

I took her hand in mine and gave it a reassuring squeeze. One that we both needed.

The soft rustling around us made me freeze on the spot until Carson’s scent wafted around me.

“We can use the tunnel. It’s unguarded. It doesn’t seem she knows we were coming here,” Carson whispered.

No one spoke another word when we turned around and let Carson lead us to the underground tunnel. The same we used when we ran away from Hephaestus
