“This doesn’t make any sense? The color of my eyes means everything. It’s my very nature. I don’t understand,” I blurted, pacing around the spot I stood. “Is it bad or good, or…”

“Calm down. You seem to be alright. Actually, better than alright,” a muscle in Evans’s jaw twitched. “We will figure this out,” he nodded. “We have to understand it.”

“How?” I threw my hands in the air and let them fall loosely at my side as I feel overwhelmed.

Am I sick or something? Was it the wound? I am totally healed, so what is wrong with me?

I observe my hands like I would find the answers I need in them.

“Veena, calm down,” Evans paused for a bit. “Has anybody else noticed any of these things about you—your eyes and enhanced speed?”

“I don’t know. I haven’t wolfed out in a while now,” I mutter, looking away. I know he would be alarmed that I have transformed. Every wolf is supposed to transform out under the moon frequently to maintain a state of balance between both the human and wolf forms
