The Heir...

Pov: Anya Zhukov

It had been five months since I met my mother. She explained how I had gotten lost during the Pack Wars that happened years ago around the period of my birth.

She had searched for me for so long believing I was alive. All the while I had thought my birth parents had given me up and it was easier to hate them for it back then but now that I knew what happened, it made it harder to swallow.

According to her, my father is the alpha of one of the most powerful packs. I didn't get to see him because the old geezer was off on a business trip but he was told about my return. I even had a call with him.

The emotions during the phone call choked both of us as we cried more than we talked.

Derrick and I had dinner twice with my mother. During the second dinner, she asked Derrick some personal questions. She said there was something peculiar about him and asked to see his right arm where I knew he had an "N" mark burned into his flesh.

She saw the mark and went cold. She asked Derrick to leave. I stared at her noticing the change in her composure.

He made a move to stand up but I held on to him. He was going nowhere and if she insisted on him leaving then I would leave too and that would be the last time she would see me in her fucking house.

I didn't care about her money or status. All I cared about was the man sitting beside me.

"It's fine, babe." He winked at me with a smile on his face. "We'll talk when you get home."

He assured me using a mind link and I left his arm. She ignored his greeting. He kissed me before leaving.

Immediately he was gone, I yelled at her asking for an explanation good enough to make me understand why she had treated Derrick like he was a stranger.

She avoided my eyes and pretended to be too busy with the pea on her plate. Finally, she explained how that mark belonged to the Nickolai clan. They were a powerful pack and judging by his crest, she confirmed that Derrick was the heir of the Alpha.

The Nickolai clan, she explained, were their rival and the reason I had been lost all those years. Seemingly, they had lost their heir too.

I could understand why she had reacted that way but it didn't stop me from giving her a piece of my mind. I told her Derrick was my world and she had to accept him.

We argued about it for a while but she finally raised the white flag when she noticed there was nothing she could say to sway my mind from being with Derrick.

I got home late and told Derrick about what she had said. I was so glad for him that he was finally going to meet his birth parents but he didn't seem too excited by it. I could understand.

He wasn't sure what to expect. They could easily turn him away and denounce him but I managed to get him to agree to set a meeting with the Alpha the next day.

He was going to be there for two days because the Nicolai pack was in another city.

I decided to stay with my mother till he returned. I knew I was going to miss him badly and I did. I tried calling him but the reception was poor.

The next day, mother sent Charles, the butler, to summon me into the dining hall. Charles told me we had a guest and my mother wanted to introduce me to this guest. I got up and made my way to the dining area. I tried Derrick's number once more but it didn't connect.

I sighed as I turned the corner and walked into the dining area. My mother sat there talking to a woman that was about her age. They laughed and shoved at each other.

"Hey, girl. Long time." A familiar voice said from the table.

The man who had spoken sat with a smile on his face. It was none other than Carter Olsen.

What the fuck was he doing here?
