Chapter 56: The Heart's Decision

Water was shooting up my throat. I coughed hard and spit up the disgusting water, gasping for air. So much was happening. Crying, screaming. I was surrounded by so many people.

“She can’t swim! She can’t swim!” Lee just kept wailing the same thing.

Quin’s face was inches from mine.

“Am I dead?” I asked.

“Close but no cigar.” He tried to smile but he was too worried. “Just stay there.”

“I’m fine.” I insisted. “Except for my head, Jesus.” I rubbed the back of my head and it felt kinda sticky. My hand was covered in blood when I looked at it. Again I was consumed with black. 

This time I just knew I was dead.
