Chapter One- His will

Bianca's pov

As the blood spilled out of his mouth and dripped onto my white shirt due to the glass puncturing his lungs through his back, the words he had told me before the accident resounded in my brain.

"Knowledge is power, Bianca. Did you know that?" He had asked softly.

I looked at him and smiled. His gray hair was balding in the middle of his head but that didn't stop him from thinking so much, and saying 'wise' words out of nowhere.

"Of course, Grandpa." I rolled my eyes, "That sentence has been thrown around quite a bit, don't you agree?"

"That's the problem, my lovely girl. Just because a phrase is popular, people undermine its value and that's exactly what makes them miss out."

As his lips paled due to the eerie amount of blood he was losing, he stared down at me, distinction bold in his brown gaze. And as the car came crashing down the cliff, I felt his grip around my body tighten while I closed my eyes and held back a loud piercing scream. I was shaking horribly and I couldn't contain my scream any longer as we were trashed around in the vehicle.

The speed of the car became faster as it scratched against the side of the cliff before throwing us down to the ground.

The car tossed and tossed, but my grandfather's grip on my body remained firm, even as the car crashed into a bulky tree.

For a moment, everything went black and the only thing that surrounded my senses was the protruding smell of blood.

When I woke up, I was aware of the body that was limp on top of mine, especially the large amount of blood that had bled out from him and soaked onto my shirt.

"Grandpa," I muttered, understanding that he was dead. His once firm hands were cold against my body, making me shiver lightly. And his eyes… once jovial and filled with light was now hollow. In the driver's seat, I could see the driver's neck half haphazardly dancing out the window. The sight frightened me and it made me look down at my body to determine what part of me was detached or broken but I realized that there was none. Apart from how sore my legs and arms were, I was well. Grandfather had protected me.

My survival instincts kicked in and I slightly loosened my grandfather's grip on mine and somehow crawled out of the car through the now-extinct glass window.

My lungs hungrily breathed in fresh air and my body ached for rest, but my mind was frantic, even as I laid on the green grass and stared up at the sky, right in the middle of nowhere. My thoughts reminded me of the point that led us here.

I'd been watching my favorite boy band at my apartment when my grandfather suddenly appeared and told me to join him for a morning ride. I'd put on a plain t-shirt and a pair of pants, and joined him in his affairs, only to discover that he tricked me to go with him to a conference hall that was stacked with a hundred media-related personnel. I didn't take it seriously because my grandfather was always meaning to take me everywhere with him. But unexpectedly, he made an announcement that shook the world's structure in business, and threw me off my feet. He announced I, Bianca Maria Rossi as his heir and gave me everything he owned, publicly.

When we left the conference room, I had asked him why he did that because I knew my stepfather was his son, the one that had been pining over gaining his inheritance for a long time, but instead I was chosen.

Without answering my question, my grandfather had given me a file and asked me to view it at the right time.

Who would have thought that the right time would be now?

I desperately reached into the car for the file that seemed to be ruffled up a little, and flipped through the contents inside.

However, things only got worse the more I flipped through the pages which made me drop onto the ground in shock.

Apparently, my stepfather married my mother for her properties but when she wouldn't give it to him, he poisoned her which caused her death. And currently, it was under work that my late mother's landed properties were transferred to him.

Also, my stepfather had attempted to kill me once.

It was at the time that I was reckless at eighteen and went to a club. My drink had been laced by someone my stepdad hired but somehow, I didn't remember being taken advantage of, and harmed.

On the last page of the file was a young man's profile, and he seemed quite rich. His photograph was taken in a black and white theme so I couldn't see his features clearly.

His name was Carlisle Smith and he was 31 years old, his zodiac sign was Aquarius and most importantly, he was the owner and co-owner of many successful pharmaceutical companies In the world. I didn't know why his profile was in the file but it was unimportant right now.

The truth about the man I regarded as my father was much more astounding, and I didn't have any doubt that he might be responsible for the accident that happened.

I could still remember the faint cry of the driver as he complained about not being able to control the brakes.

A brake failure right after I was announced as the heir to my grandfather's multi-million dollar company was just too suspicious. No matter who was at the bottom of this, I wouldn't let it go. Especially not my 'so-called' father!

From the tousled car, I was able to find my grandfather's phone even though the screen was cracked. I called my father's most trusted aide, Dean, and told him what happened and said he would come to me by tracing the location of the phone.

I sat there on the cold grass, feeling myself soaked in feelings of inadequacy as I realized that only I, the most incompetent of the two men in the car, survived.
