Thirty seven

Karis's mother was seated beside him looking ever elegant in a blue dress gown and his father was seated opposite him in their three seat dinner table wearing a traditional Italian suit.

"So Karis, how do you find work in California?" His father asked as a maid cleared up their breakfast plates and served coffee.

He understood what was going on. His family was going to try to make small talk with him, before they moved to strike. As usual, his mother would pass off her ideas as his father's own. Perhaps, she had already schooled him on how to act, the previous day. His father would of cause do as he was told, because like his mother, Senator Ilobi believed the Victoria's plan was always the best plan.

And so, he was going to sit here discussing, and pretending most of the questions his father asked weren't questions his mother had pushed the man to ask.
