Chapter 1

It's midnight but I'm still here at work. The restaurant is closing at ten o'clock in the evening but I was left behind because our boss suddenly asked me to do something so I can't do anything but work overtime. It's okay with me because it also adds to my salary. It helps me to pay my tuition fees at school.

As I finish my work, I gather my things so that I can go home already. I'm so tired and I still need to review for my upcoming exam. I was about to close the restaurant when I bumped into something hard and when I looked at it I almost dropped my jaw. An adonis man was standing in front of me. He was still wearing office clothes and you couldn't tell if the expression was on his face. I also feel that he is also a little bit drunk.

"Can I dine in?" he asks in a baritone voice while his eyes were half closed. He's probably drunk.

"I'm sorry Sir, but we're close. You can go back tomorrow." I replied politely and continue to close the door.

I saw his forehead wrinkled when I glance at him.

"I'm a VIP here! You should know that. As far as I can see it's not closed yet so I can order my food here." he said irritatingly.

A drunk man in the middle of the night, wanting to take a dine-in in a fine dining restaurant, I think had a problem.

I sigh and I stop closing the door. I look sympathetically into his handsome face then open the door widely for him. Maybe he needs a place to relax.

"Come on in, Sir." I welcome him and open the entrance door. He began to walk towards me. He almost fell to the ground due to the spirit of alcohol. Good thing I catch him immediately before his face kisses the ground.

I carried his broad arms to guide him to his seat. After sitting down, he looked at me with his drunken face.

"I want to order soup. A soup that could take away the pain right here—" he pinpoint his chest while looking at me with his half-closed eyes.

"—inside my chest. Get it?" he asks and tiredly leans his back on the chair.

I sighed for the nth time. How can I say to this drunk man that we don't have that kind of soup? I may upset him. He looks like a brokenhearted man in the middle of the night.

Instead of upsetting his heart, I just nod at him and went straight to the kitchen to prepare the soup. I made mushroom soup for him. After I am done cooking, I serve it right away to him. I place the spoon, tissue, and glass of water in their places then I stand a few inches away from him.

He tastes the soup and then shifted his gaze to me. I just smile awkwardly.

Is the soup good? I'm not the cook of this restaurant. I don't have any idea if it's good. I just follow the instructions on how to make it.

I mentally slap my face. I hope he likes the soup since he is the VIP in the restaurant. And also, I wanted to make him feel good by eating the soup despite his bad day.

I think I need to take care of him this time.

"Did you cook this?" he asked in a monotone. I gulp and immediately nod at him in response. I saw a glimpse of a smile on his lips but in a matter of seconds, gone instantly. He sighs exaggeratedly.

"Sit down," he commands. I was startled and look at him skeptically.

"Ah. Yes. Yes. I'm sorry, Sir." I apologize and sit down three chairs away from him. Maybe he was distracted by my presence and he can't eat peacefully.

I look at my wristwatch. It's already one in the morning. I need to review my notes but—I can't leave this lonely drunk man here.

" Hey!" he called out which makes me shift my gaze to him.

"Sit here," he commands and pinpoints the chair across from his table.

I look at him skeptically but in the end, I just followed silently his order. There's no harm to sit across from his table anyway.

After sitting, he puts down the spoon in his right hand beside the bowl of soup and wipes his lips with a tissue.

"You know what? I felt unwanted by my fiance a few months ago. And what hurts me the most, when we were preparing for our wedding, she doesn't give any interest. The worst part is she doesn't want to push it anymore." he shared then frustratingly cupped his face. I gulp when I saw the pain draw in his eyes. No doubt, he was in pain inside.

" Uhmm… Sometimes, people come and go to bring us a lesson. We should always remember, we need to accept things to keep on moving. Maybe she has a reason why. And I think you knew what it is. You just can't accept it now but I hope you'll accept it soon." I console his heart and unintentionally touch his shoulder. I immediately withdrew my hand after he notice I held him.

Because of what I did, he looks at me straight in the eyes. I gulp and shyly bow my head. I don't know what he was thinking about right now but I hope it is good.

"Marry me."

My eyes got widened and look at him intently. As if I was contemplating things.

Did I hear it right?

"P-pardon?" I ask shakingly.

He chuckled and lower his gaze then back to me again. His playful smile fades away in an instant and looks at me intently which makes me gulp.

"I said marry me. I'll give you the money. Just marry me." he replied full of confidence and determination.

My mouth was agape while looking at him.

Is this a joke?
