Chapter 62
By the time Eric returned from picking up Luca from the airport, it was almost eleven in the local time. I hadn’t slept a wink in twenty-four hours. Yet, I couldn’t get my mind to relax. I paced up and down the room about a thousand times, thinking and trying to understand, replaying the events in my head.
I didn’t realize how tightly I was wound, how ready to pounce I was until I heard my name being called from behind me.
I whipped around.
“Jesus, Kai!” Luca took a step back, glaring at me with wide and wary eyes. “What the hell is going on?”
I tried my best to compose myself, to put on my mask, but it wasn’t as effortless as usual. “Take a seat. We have got to discuss a few things.”
He looked anxiously from me to Eric before walking over to the table in the sitting room. I moved across from him and remained standing.
