Chapter 4 - Office rumors

-INDIGO-

Mr. Grey is kissing me. Well, more like Mr. Grey kissed me. The kiss didn't last upto two seconds before he ended it. There's no wedding reception. Jax and Matilda are commanded to go home immediately the wedding ends.

I'm left alone with Mr. Grey in his huge mansion. He sits on a chair in his living room, tapping on his phone as I stand a few feet away—still wearing my wedding dress—watching him.

"What now?" I ask awkwardly, and it's only then he turns to me.

"The second room upstairs by the left is yours. Mine is the one at the end of the hall. Your things were brought here during the wedding. If you're hungry, there are ingredients in the kitchen, make something. If you're not, sleep. I'm busy, don't disturb me." He says in a curt tone and I nod my head.

Good to see he's the still the same Mr. Grey as last week.

I take his directions and go to the room prepared for me. I see that most of my stuff are already here. I drop on my bed and it bounces as my gown flares.

I stare at the empty wall in front of me. I'm now Mrs. Indigo Grey. Both my names are colors now. I don't know how, but I sleep peacefully that night. So peacefully that I even oversleep.

I carry out my morning routine a little bit longer than I usually do. Mr. Grey's bathroom is overly fancy than I thought it would be. I jog downstairs to the kitchen to prepare something before I head for work.

I see eggs, flour, milk and some other things. I decide to make pancakes. I'm on the fifth one when Mr. Grey storms into the kitchen. He scowls at the sight of me.

"Good morning, sir," I greet him.

"How do you like your pancakes?" I ask him in urgency.

"What are you doing?" He asks slowly.

"Making pancakes," I say as I flip one on the pan. "Hurry and pick, we're going to be late for work." I add.

"There's no work today—"

"What?"

"And for the rest of the week." He continues, despite my question.

"I don't understand." I say in confusion.

"We just got married yesterday, we can't report to the work the next day. As much as I enjoy making money, it would seem more believable if we stay back for the rest of the week, then resume next week." He explains.

"Oh okay." I answer in a deflated tone. We have breakfast in silence. We have lunch in silence as well. We have dinner in silence also. Repeat the same the next day, and the next, until Monday comes rolling in.

I noticed three things over the break from work, and time spent with Mr. Rowan Grey.

Number one - He hates people, that's why he has no workers at home and barely speak to the ones he has at work.

Number two - He is very untidy when it comes to things other than himself. The other day, he ate and left his plate on the sink unwashed. And he piled up his laundry for me to do.

Number three - He hates me. He refuses to touch or talk to me. The only time he actually does talk to me is only to lecture me. And he scowls a lot.

Mr. Grey and I go to work riding his limited edition Mercedes. I feel so self conscious as I step down from the car. We walk into the office building, with me tailing behind Mr. Grey.

Something is off.

Everyone is staring at us and whispering.

They always do so when Mr. Grey is in the building, but they're not this obvious. Mr. Grey seems to ignore everyone as he steps into his office and shuts the door.

I take on my cubicle and start the work for the day. Matilda comes in seconds later with a wary look on her face.

"What?" I ask her.

"They know," is the only thing she says.

"Who knows what?" I ask, still confused.

"Everyone knows about the wedding between you and Mr. Grey." She whispers to my side and my jaw drops.

"How?" I ask her.

"Some blogs posted about it last night on their site, and everyone has been reposting the news. You're Mr. Grey's mystery wife and everyone hates you." She explains.

"I don't understand..."

"Mr. Grey is young, handsome, rich and famous. You are not his standard, no offense. It's surprising how he married you and not some billionaire heiress. Everyone thinks you're some whore who married him for his money." Matilda adds.

"But that's not true. He's the one who forced me to marry him," I say in my defense.

"I know that, but they don't." She says, casting a glacé at two female employees that pass by us, giving me condescending looks.

Wow, so this is my life now. I should've known something like this would happen, but I didn't prepare. I hate being unprepared. Marrying Rowan Grey was something I jumped into unprepared. Now, I have to suffer the consequences for it.

Lunch time is the worst. Everyone is gathered in gossip circles, and I'm the gossip topic. I'm not really friends with anyone except for Matilda in this office, so that gives them more reason to hate on me. I take a seat at my usual table and begin to eat.

"How can she eat comfortably knowing that she seduced her boss to marry her?"

"I always thought she was uptight, I didn't know she was just a conniving slut."

"I wonder what she did to poor Mr. Grey to capture him in her trap."

"She looks so bland, what could he possibly have seen in her?"

I hear every single one of their words. They're not even trying to be discreet with insulting me. I stand up from my chair abruptly to defend myself when I hear—

"The boss's personal whore."

"How—"

"You're fired!"

My words get drowned by the loud booming voice that tears through the lunchroom.

I turn to the source of the sound to see Mr. Grey standing over one of the female accountants, a few tables away from me.

"W-what?" The girl stutters in confusion.

"I don't know if you're aware, but this is my company. And you have the guts to talk trash about my wife. How dare you? Do you know who I am? Do you know how many seconds it would take me to totally destroy your life? One second!" Mr. Grey says, snapping his fingers, and for a second I start to feel bad for the lady.

"But, she seduced you. She's nothing but a—"

"Complete that sentence and I'll blacklist you. I'll make your life so miserable that dying would seem like a luxury you can't afford." Mr. Grey threatens the lady and she closes her mouth.

"Get out of my building." He says to her in an impatient tone. She fumbles in standing up and he snaps.

"Get the fuck out of my building right now!" He booms and she vanishes from our sight.

"And for the rest of you all—" he says, looking at every corner of the lunchroom. "If anyone of you dare to disrespect my wife in any way, I promise to make your lives a living hell. And you all know how serious and true my words are." He continues and the tension in the air rises.

Everyone slouches their shoulders and start to look down, as fear grips them. I've seen Mr. Grey get angry a lot of times but nothing like this. He looks like a monster.

"Indigo!" He calls out, and I flinch at the sound of my own name.

"Yes, sir," I answer shakily.

"Report to my office." He says, before storming out of the lunchroom.

I married a monster.
