A fateful coincidence

Madeline's POV

"Fold?" The croupier, a tall lanky man, dressed in a black crisp suit and had the worst french accent I had heard in my entire life said, peering down at me. 

I gave him the stink eye and reviewed the cards in my hands. Ah crap. My cards weren't looking too good. But if I quit the game now, I would lose my money. I had walked into this damned casino to double my money, not lose it all at a game of cards. .

But hell, my cards weren't good at all. We had gone a total of four rounds and they were looking terrible. If I had counted properly, two spades and a couple of hearts wasn't going to do me much good. The grins on the other faces of my fellow gamblers told me that much.  

"Fold," I told the croupier with a sigh and rose to my feet. I suppose I had no chance to win today. I would win some other time.
