Mia's POV

His tired voice was the key to my undoing. I found myself walking back to the table and I sat with him until he was done eating. I watched as he pushed his chair back and went to the kitchen to drop his empty plate.

“How was your day?” He asked as he walked back to the dining room.

“Boring and lonely as usual.” I said in a bored tone.

A look of guilt flashed across his face, I would have missed it if I had blinked at that moment.

“I’m sorry about that, I’ve been really busy at work lately, I would have spent more time with you.” He said as he gestured for us to move towards the living room.

“Well, Austin is here now, there’s no need to worry about me being lonely.” I pressed my lips into a thin line as I plopped down on a couch.

“About that,” He stood in front of me and dipped his hand into his pocket.

“Austin doesn’t know about the contract just like everyone else.”

“I know.” I said, wondering where this conversation was heading.
