Effort wasted

Vanessa's POV

“What’s wrong?” Estelle asked, setting the cutlery down on the table. “You have been so quiet ever since you came back from the store.”

I glanced up at her, then tucked a strand of my hair away from my face with a small smile. “Actually… it’s nothing. The cab broke down, and I had to walk to the store. That’s why I took so long. But it’s fine. Let’s just eat.” I changed the topic.

I did not want to bother Estelle by telling her what that thug almost did to me in that alleyway.

And that the person who saved me and almost hit me with his car at the same time, was the billionaire I was supposed to be working for.

The shock, embarrassment and panic I felt was not something I wanted to relieve.

Estelle gave me a look, then shrugged. “Alright. I’ll go see if your mom’s awake and bring her down for dinner. Wait for us before you eat! I can see the way you’re devouring the chicken with your eyes..” She playfully gave me a suspicious look as she stepped backwards.
