The Drive(2)

LISA'S POV

I closed the bag and sat straight as the door was kicked open. He strode in with his long legs. He was wearing a blue three piece suit but he held his suit jacket in his hand.

He probably didn't see me because he stood in his office, unaware of my presence as he continued his phone call.

"I'll send them to you when I can," his voice was a tad urgent but he still sounded so tired. "Just get everything she needs."

Was there more of me by his side? I couldn't complain. After all, I was earning my fair share of him.

"Hold on, it's on my desktop,"

Oh no it isn't! I jumped to my feet and hurried over to him before he could get any closer to his desk.

I attempted to hug him from behind, wrapping my hands around his body when he suddenly flinched.

I lost my balance and I fell on my ass, staring at him in shock. He had a glare on his face as he was suddenly on alert.

"Let me call you back," he said into the phone and hung up without taking his eyes away from me.

I gulped as he walked closer, only the sound of his shoes filling the quiet air. He squatted to my level with his hands resting on his thigh.

He stared at me in silence, watching me like I was an experiment. I gulped a little too loudly and the thought of him hearing that made my cheeks flustered.

His eyes lit up suddenly, he looked surprised and in awe. He reached out a hand and I stayed perfectly still. When his cold fingers brushed my cheek, my eyes widened at the sudden spark.

I could've sworn I was expecting his touch so why did it still feel so... Strange and shocking through my body?

"You're red," he said in his usual cool voice. He stared at his fingers like I had stained them. He acted like everything was a first for him.

I swallowed hard, looking past him to the desktop. It should've taken everything by now.

"Did you wait long?" I shook my head at his questions. He was being very talkative today even though he had only said just two sentences to me.

"Don't stay on the floor," he stretched out his hand. "It's cold," I glanced at his fingers, before sliding mine in. As expected, his hands were cold but what I needed more was the cold feel of my flash drive!

It was hard to stay focused on my mission when he pulled me so gently and walked me over to the couch like we were a couple having an evening talk in his office.

"Does it hurt?"

"Hmm?" I jerked my head to him. I sat while he stood over me with my hand still in his grip. Now that I thought about it, that night when he grabbed my neck, he didn't really choke me. In fact, his hand was loose around my neck like he didn't want to hurt me.

The more I thought about it, the more creeped out I felt. My heart was pounding and I could hear it.

"Yes, it does.... My ankle. I'm sorry, can I skip today?" I needed to get out of here fast.

There was something in the air that was making my chest tight and my heart beat faster. It started ever since I stared into his eyes tonight. Was it too cold or was there just something else lurking behind it?

"Okay," he answered almost in a whisper and I lifted my gaze to see if that hurt him.

His expression was unreadable as always. "I'll call Parker to drive you home," as soon as he stepped out of his office, I dashed to the desktop and yanked out the drive without checking if it had taken everything.

I was scared and on the verge of panicking. I hid the drive between my stomach and the waistband of my underwear. No one would search me there. I grabbed my new bag and started to head outside.

The door opened and I halted with my heart almost flying out of my mouth.

"Did I take too long this time?" He arched his brow. This was the most emotion I had seen so far.

I shook my head, "Nope. You were faster than flash." Just get me out of here already!

He nodded tightly and led me outside where Parker was already waiting.

"Okay, good bye," I jumped into the car quickly, refusing to stare into his eyes. With my heart roaring loudly in my chest. What was up with me today? I had never been so nervous about a job before.

I dared to spare him one last look and despite the window being rolled up and tinted, our eyes met. His eyes were heavy today. It was a good thing I lied about my ankle. I didn't think I could look into those today.

"Where to?" Parker asked the minute he got in. I gave him my street address and leaned back on the seat, closing my eyes to calm myself.

I think I dozed off because when I woke up, the car had stopped moving. "Why didn't you wake me up?"

He didn't reply but I packed my bags and opened the car door- "It's locked. Open it," I needed to get some sleep before planning how to disappear. Surely he would notice his money was missing and soon after I submitted the drive to Miguel, he may come after me.

I felt something drop on my thigh and I looked down to see a fat brown envelope.

I turned to Parker with curious eyes and met his stare on the rearview mirror.

"What's this? Another gift from my man-"

"The drive,"

I felt a chill run down my spine.

"Hand over the drive. In exchange, take that money and disappear. Never show your face before my boss again
