Chapter 4

"What took you so long?" His voice was stern when he asked. He seemed unimpressed for I come here late of his expected time.

I'm speechless. He just called me and I went here as fast as I could. Only a few minutes has passed by, since that happened.

I don't know what to say and how to answer, because I'm fully aware that I'm not at fault.

Should I say... He has issues and I'm unknowlegeable of it.

"My brother is a playboy. He's not a good influence to anyone." He suddenly added. This time, he's calm while reading the files I give him.

And I don't have an idea as to why he's giving me that kind of advise when I'm married.

"Pardon, Sir?"

He stopped and took a glimpse of me. For some reason, he gave me the chills that makes me feel uncomfortable.

"Nevermind, Miss Esquivel." He said after a few seconds of looking. "You can go back to your post."

I breath in relief. I thought it would turn to be something serious.

"Before I leave, do you have any other concern which I can assist you with, Sir?"

"No more. I'll call you again, when I need your help." He's back at his work again.

I nodded and smiled. And because I don't want to gain grudges with him, I think it's way better to apologize before leaving, even if I do not know the initial root cause of his sudden change of mood.

"I apologize if I displeased you earlier, Sir. I will try my best not to repeat that mistake in the future." I feel obligated for causing him such a bad mood, and I hope he'll be fine and do not hold a grudge against me.

Today is just my first day at work. I cannot lose this. My kids are rooting for me with their future especially our needs which needs enough funds to sustain everything.

In work, to create a good impression and good relationship with your Boss and co-workers, it requires politeness, and patience. It's not all about work but also showcasing the good side of you as a person.

He just hummed in response and that gives me the signal to leave for he accepted my apology.

It was a tough experience and I believe it would happen again, even countless times that awaits ahead. I must ready myself and practice to get use to it.

"Hi, Rain. Are you done for today?" Aiden asked when we somehow met in front of the elevator.

"Yes. How about you, Aiden?" Other than his cross bag hanging in his chest, he didn't bring anything.

"I've done my work for today." The elevator has arrived and opened. "Shall we?" I chuckled at his gentleness.

"Thanks."

I went inside the elevator first and he followed next.

"How's my brother? Did he make things hard for you?" He suddenly asked concerning his brother.

I thought of the CEO before answering, "No, not really."

I saw how his brow moved, maybe it's really something that's hard to believe.

"You're the first secretary whichever found my brother like that, huh?" He's laughing as if it's something funny.

"Oh, it's what I noticed tho." I just shrugged and fixed my bag on my shoulder.

"Alright. I'm not against anything. It's just that, my brother has been too hard to his previous secretary. Especially on their first day at work." He shared with his hands slid inside his pockets. He looked cool on that pose. He's not far from being a model, only if we talked about features.

Probably, he'll gain good profit if the product company presents him as the stuff's model. Not only that, he would gain popularity and fan base.

"I see. If you don't mind me asking, why does your brother like that?" I couldn't help but wonder. I'm as well curious of his mood swings. His mood deliberately changes, like what happened earlier. It didn't take me too much time to come, since he called me in. But he suddenly questioned why it takes me too long to come?

It's something that's hard to understand. I believe, every person would have a hard time to understand an individual who suddenly gets angry especially when you didn't do something that displeased him.

"Hmm... The reason was very complicated. I want to share it to you, but I can't invade my brother's privacy. As you can see, he despised me but we still respect each other."

"It's okay. I understand, Aiden." It's still not right to force him, despite craving for the answer regarding my boss's issues. Perhaps, I have to limit myself and act according to my work. Invading someone's privacy isn't part of my job. "I pity his previous Secretary for experiencing such work and treatment in their first day."

"Yeah, no one could dare stay long like Miss Roxy does."

When the elevator hits the ground floor, I say goodbye to him as he has to go down by the basement parking. I took a cab on my way home and arrived a few minutes before eight in the evening.

"Good evening, Rain." Bea opened the door for me and welcomed me with a hug. "How's work?"

I took off my shoes and put it on the rack. "It wasn't very tiring, but from now on, I'll be handling toxic clients."

"Oh... I see. For sure, many girls were crawling on their knees just to get into Uriel Ledesma." She sarcastically said as she sat down by the sofa.

"Maybe, they are. But it seems like it is." I just shrugged and stretched my lower limbs. "Where are my children?"

"They're asleep. They insisted on waiting for you, but I prohibit them from doing so because I predicted it right that you'll be coming home a little bit late. It's not healthy for them."

I could feel my limbs getting numb and my back from all the works bestowed to me today. Today is just my first day, probably, there would be more to come to expect.

"Your son, Alas. He asked about his father."

That made me stopped from stretching my limbs. I saw Bea sighing. I can't blame her, it's still a heavy thing to answer.

"Prolly, Duke and Amy would ask about their father as well. How are we going to explain to them that they don't have a father? That everything was just a fruit of a sinful one night stand?" She's worried, and I'm more than that. Neither I, doesn't know what to say to them regarding that subject.

I can't just say it easy. For sure, they couldn't understand the situation because they're still young. It's not healthy for my kids.

"I don't know too, Bea. This subject has been floating in my mind. It's been years but still I couldn't find an answer to make my children understand. It's just so hard." I took a deep sigh as I took a glimpse of her. My shoulders fell down.

"I can't blame you. Your situation is just so hard to escape. How about you introduce them to their father instead?" I tiredly cover my face with my hands.

I shake my head in rejection. "I can't do that..."

"Why not?" She's shock. And I know she'll be surprised on what I am going to say.

"I don't know who their father is."

"Crap. Are you serious?!" She stood up as her hands are gesturing according to her emotions. "Oh my, how could it possibly be?"

I look up to her and said, "It was just a one night stand, Bea. How can you expect for me to know about that stranger who jerked me? It was just a mistake."

I saw disappointment crossed her face, "Why did you just told me now?"

I avoid gaze of her. "I'm just afraid you'll judge me for being so dumb at everything. I can't stress you up after all the help you've given to me and my children."

She went to me and gathered me into her arms. Embracing me from the side, "I'm sorry if you overseen me like that. And I apologize for acting much."

I didn't notice that my tears are actually falling, if I didn't sneeze, I can't seem to notice it.

"We'll think of another way for that."

I just nod at her and tried to compose myself back. Now that this circumstances has come, I better ready myself for the possible outcome might bring to every decision I take.

May the Lord guide me and helped me into this matter.
