Twenty-Four

Alicia's POV

Nathan went back to the kitchen. I went after him. He tried lifting up a pan and winced before using his other hand. It was his middle finger that got hurt, that made it hard for him to grip or hold anything with that hand.

"I'm fine, you don't have to look so worried," Nathan assured me. Quickly, I changed my composure and facial expression.

"I wasn't worried. Moreover, I have my hand to worry out,"

He chuckled. "I'll take you for your word. Did you change the bandage and did you remember to use your drugs?"

I shrugged, not ready to give him an answer. "I thought you weren't talking to me,"

"I planned on not talking to you but I changed my mind after you took care of me," he explained.

"I didn't take care of you, I only helped you,"

Why does he always say things that'll get on my nerves?

"Okay, if you say so, Birdie,"

I rolled my eyes at him and picked up the knife on the kitchen counter to clean it up in the sink.
