90. Divorce

I waited for a beat. Then another. And another.

He didn’t say anything.

I was beginning to get anxious. He was just staring at the paper I placed in front of him, unmoving. I was curious to know what was going on in his head. Was he relieved that I was initiating divorce?

“I’ve already signed it,” I spoke up when the silence was becoming deafening even if he could see that I already signed it. “You just have to sign your part and we can start the process.”

I saw the outline of his tongue poking the inside of his cheek before he raised his head slowly. I almost shrank under his gaze, but I decided to stand my ground. “What is this supposed to mean?” He uttered in a dangerous tone.

“I’m sure you’re familiar with what kind of paperwork it is.” I couldn’t help but bite back bitterly. In the space of six months, he’d have had two divorces. It made me wonder if he would get married again after me.
