Living With The Devil

Chapter Four

Living With The Devil

Eliza's POV

Getting back into my one apartment room, I fell on the bed with my gaze fixed on the ceiling, my whole life seemed worthless and hopeless.

I thought Emily was going to be back to me and I would be able to refund this man before he gets to me, I wasn't trying to run away but he misunderstood me.

All that was happening wouldn't be that way if Emily hadn't left me all alone in the hospital, I wouldn't have asked a strange man for help, a man I had never set my eyes upon.

I would never have signed that contract with him, it was the contract which led to the situation I was in at the moment.

I had no other choice than to do what he wants me to do, I would never be able to pay a hundred thousand dollars even if I worked for years.

I was unlearned, I was close to being an illiterate, I was never going to work in a big company and earn a fat salary like people within my age range, I was different from then because I never went to school, I dropped out or elementary school because of bullies.

Maybe I was going to live my dreams by working with this strange man. He said I was going to work with him as his secretary, I guess that was a good thing because I had always wanted to work in an office, it was my dream but I had no opportunity to do that because I never went to school, I stopped at the elementary school which was almost nothing.

I would be his secretary, I would get to work in an office, that would be a good thing, and that was the only exciting thing about moving in with this man. Other than that, I was going to become his slave.

I glanced at my wristwatch and it was few minutes to the time I was given, his words rang in my head again, he told me that he doesn't tolerate lateness, I had to get to him as soon as I could.

I quickly jumped up from the bed, I would get late if I try to pack all my clothes, so I only picked the ones I would be needing for few days, I would come back for others.

I didn't want to see that man's wrath again, just few minutes with him, I has come to realize that he wasn't someone I could toy with.

I packed the clothes into a bag and rushed out of he house, I had just few minutes left, I had been so lost in thought that I couldn't notice how fast the time went by.

I stumbled unto the street and picked up a cab to the address he gave me.

I knew I couldn't escape being late, I would definitely be late and I would have to face that man again.

Few minutes later, the cab pulled over at the front of a giant building. I paid the driver and turned to the mansion, I couldn't help but wonder at how some people were blessed with wealth and people like me have to eat their left over, it was so sad.

I stared at the building for minutes, I has forgotten the fact that I was already late, I was captivated by how big that house was and I couldn't wait to check the rooms out.

Why should I be so bothered?, I was going to leave a one room apartment to live in a big mansion, I was getting an upgrade, and that was something to be excited about.

I was so lost in the beauty of this mansion that I didn't even know that there was a car honking at my back, until I felt a hand on my shoulder.

I froze on the spot, the trauma of how I was pulled into that car earlier came back haunting me, I turned slowly and it was that same man, I didn't know if I should be happy or sad, I just stood still and stared at him.

"I've been behind you minutes, I've been horning but you didn't bulge, I could have just ran over you if I wanted," he growled.

I couldn't say a word, I was still staring at him without moving, how could anyone be so harsh with words, we didn't even know each other before we signed the contract, I would have thought that he had something against me, but all that it was between us was the contract, I was only owing him and that was all, I didn't deserve to be treated and I talked to like that.

What can I do though?, low class people like me are to be treated that way, it is the way the society is built, we have no say and the rules doesn't work for us.

"I'm...I'm sorry," I stuttered, "I...I didn't hear you," I shook in his hands, just the look he gave me send shivers into my whole body, I couldn't help but shake.

"You are sorry?," he chuckled, "You don't look like you are," he shook his head.

What was the best way to show him that I was sorry than telling him that?, I didn't understand what exactly this man want from me?.

"Yes, I...I am sorry," I responded.

"Open the damn gate now," he commanded and headed back for his car.

I turned to the big gate and I got lost, how was I supposed to open this?, I didn't know how to do that.

I wasn't a gate keeper and I had never been one, I didn't understand how this man expect me to open a gate, and a big one at that.

I just stood right there without doing anything, I didn't know if I should push or pull, I was totally lost.

"Open the gate now or I run over you," he yelled from inside his car and I began to shake, "I have no time to waste, I can run you over, I own your life anyway."

I wouldn't be so scared if this man didn't start driving towards me.

I became sweaty and my body began to shake, he was more closer than ever and it was looking more like he was really going to run over me like he said.

I closed my eyes and brought my hands to my ears, "Ahhh," I shouted.

This man was a devil in human form, he was going to run me over, he didn't even care that I was a human like he is.

I could already feel the car heating me up, but I didn't open my eyes, I was ready for whatever he was going to do to me.

I kept shaking, my whole body was sweaty and my heartbeat raced, if this man was really going to run me over, then he should at least give me a chance to make a wish.

I knew my sister, Emily, was going to come for me, she wasn't that bad to leave me all alone, she had been taking care of me since our parent's death, she wouldn't leave me just like that. I knew Emily had a good reason for leaving me all alone in the hospital.

If this man was going to take my life in place of his money, then he should give me the chance to tell my sister what was on my mind, he should at least give me the chance to make my last wish.

I believed he was going to hear me out if I plead with him. I opened my eyes one after the other and he was right in my front.

I froze at first and I forgot what I was going to say for some minutes. I stared at him as he stood in my front, gazing at me with the most horrible look I had ever seen, it was so obvious that this man despised me so much.

"Why are you shouting?," he asked, standing and glaring at me with his sea rover blue eyes, "I only asked you to open the gate, I really don't understand why you are shouting," he added and clicked his tongue.

"Uhm...I... can't open the gate," I responded and hung my head in embarrassment, and also in fear, "And...and I was scared, I...I thought you were going to run over me," I stuttered.

He chuckled and shook his head, "Never," he stated, still shaking his head, "I am not a killer like you. Although you deserve to die, you won't die by my hands," he shook his head again with a smirk dancing at the corner of his lips.

Why does he keep saying that I deserve to die?, that was the same thing he said when I pleaded for his help at the hospital, he told me that I deserve to die and the condition I was in serves me right, I didn't understand why he was so cruel to me, I didn't even do anything wrong to him.

I didn't deserve to die to, everyone has the right to live, and so am I, I didn't do anything wrong to deserve death, I did nothing wrong to deserve to be sick with cancer.

I deserve health and wholeness just like everyone else,I didn't deserve to die like he said.

"I don't blame you," he clicked his tongue, "You've never seen a house as big as this before, I can tell that you live in a park or under the bridge. I'm just so sure it is somewhere dirty because you disgust me," he added, with a disgusting look.

Once again, I was forced to look down at myself, I checked my clothes properly, do I really stink?, do I look disgusting?, I was confused, and hurt with the words he threw at me. I would dress elegantly like him if I had the chance and money to do that, but I don't, I was a low class, below average.

It was better when Emily was still here, she would make sure that I was comfortable. I wanted to work too, but the cancer I had didn't let me, I was always bedridden and praying for my wholeness, I wanted to pay Emily back in folds all she has done for me, but she left me in the most important part of my life, I would have been dead if this man didn't show at the hospital.

And now, I was stuck with him forever, I didn't know how long I would have to work with him to be able to pay him off, it was a hundred thousand dollars, it was going to take a very long time.

I wasn't certain about how long it would take, but one thing is for sure, it was going to be a hell of a ride.

"Disgusting human," he murmured as he pushed the gates open. He walked back to his car and drove in.

I immediately closed up the gate before he would say anything again, I believed that doing things before he asks me to do them would help me not to step on his toes, he wouldn't have to insult me anymore.

He drove into the garage and I rushed to him, but I made sure that there was at least five steps between us.

I followed right behind him into the house, the lights were on and I was beginning to wonder if someone else was staying in the house.

I got my answer soon enough, a middle-aged woman walked to us, she had an apron on.

"Hello sir," she bowed her head and greeted, "I have been waiting for you to be back so I can leave," she added.

This man who I was yet to know his name and maybe I was never going to know his name because I didn't have the gut to ask, he had a faint smile on his face, "I had some things to do Ivy," he responded.

"Oh!," the woman murmured and turned to me, a big smile fell on her face when she turned to see me, "Is this her?, is this madam?," she asked and moved closer to me, she held my hands and she wore a big expression of excitement on her face, "I've been waiting to meet you madam, Master has told me a whole lot about you," she giggled.

I was just s lost as I was at the gate, I would definitely get lost by everything in that house, and everything that has to do with this guy.

The woman let go of my hand and turned to my owner, "You told me a lot about your fiancee, I am so glad that she is back," she smiled and faced me again, she held one of my hands and brought it on his hand, "You both should hasten your marriage now, I would be glad to see you get married," she added.

"What!," we both exclaimed, it seemed like I wasn't the only one lost there, he was also lost, what was this woman saying?.

Get married?, I was never going to get married to someone like this man, he was a devil, and aside from that, I believe he doesn't see me as a normal person. I was just some disgusting human he picked up from the slum.

He glared at me and pushed my hand away, "Never," he shouted, "She is never going to be my fiancee, she is never going to be her," he yelled and kicked the table beside him.

I was confused, why was he getting so worked up by this woman’s little mistake?, made me wonder who his fiancee was.

Who was she?, and why haven't I seen anyone like her?.
