Chapter Three

No Improvement

Alexander's POV

I pulled over at the hospital garage and walked in, I had been visiting the hospital everyday in the last two years. I always visited with the hope that Emily would wake up someday, I kept on hoping that the day would come.

I walked in and I was welcomed by the attendant who was in charge of taking care of Emily.

"Mr Alex," she smiled, "The doctor wants to see you, thank goodness you came at the right time," she informed.

My heart would always skip a beat whenever I hear that the doctor wants to see me, it was like something bad was going to happen or I was going to get a bad news, I just didn't like to see the doctor.

"Thank you," I responded and headed for the doctor's office, I didn't like it, but I had no choice.

I walked to the doctor's office and he welcomed me with a big smile, "Mr Alex, how are you today," he stood up to welcome me, that was the first time he would do that since I had been coming to check Emily up.

It was confusing and it also gave me a sort of relief, I felt like he had a good news for me, the way he welcomed me with a smile, there must be something going on.

"I'm great, thank you," I responded and sat in his front, "The nurse told me you want you see me."

"Yes yes Mr Alex," he smiled again, "Uhm...I was told that you donated some amount of money to the hospital," he started, "I just wanted to thank you for doing that, you are such a good man," he grinned.

That was what his smiles and heartwarming welcome was all about, I thought he wanted to give me a good news about Emily's condition, I was just anxious for nothing.

"Is that all?," I was forced to ask, "Nothing about Emily?, is there any progress?," I inquired.

His face suddenly went down, and you wouldn't know that he was the same person smiling like he won a lottery few minutes ago, "I'm sorry Mr Alex, but uhmm... it's still the same, she is still not responding to treatment," he responded.

"So what do we do?, isn't there a way for her to respond to treatment?, you are a doctor aren't you?, you can do it."

"I'm sorry Mr Alex, but most coma patients are untreatable," he answered, "They can only wake up with God's will, and if it's getting worse we would have to remove them from life support," he added.

"So what you are saying now is you will soon remove Emily from life support?," I asked as my heart leaped into my throat, "You mean Emily is going to die?," I felt terrible.

"No no, I didn't say that, anything can still happen, she might still wake up," he responded and stood up from his seat, he moved closer to me and placed a hand on my shoulder, "You have to remain strong and also pray for her, she might still wake up," he went on.

I spranged up from the chair, "You are not even sure if she's going to wake up or not, you all are a fake, fake doctors," o yelled and rushed to Emily's ward.

I fell beside her bed and held her hand, my life has been miserable since she had been on that bed, it was like my happiness and joy were washed away after that incident, she was all I had but I couldn't even be with her anymore.

"Just wake up please," I cried, "Wake up Emily, I am tired of seeing you this way, I am tired of seeing you on this bed, please wake up," my lips quavered.

Was that going to work?, I don't think so, Emily would have woken up if my plead were going to wake her up, I have pleaded with her everyday since the last two years for her to wake up, but she didn't, only a miracle can wake her up.
