Chapter 35

Lesley is lost in her thoughts as she watches the fire dance in front of her. She stares at the burning wood while thinking about what they went through today. After escaping Shane's men, they hid in the forest and ran until the sky became dark.

She hugs herself and sits on a rock wide enough to support her. She savors the warmth the fire gives as Dan continues to add more dried branches to the bonfire they had lit before sunset.

Lesley patted the scrapes on her arms. She got it earlier when she jumped from the car. She had no deep wounds or broken bones, but the scratches on her skin were stinging.

She glances at Bangs, who is still sound asleep next to her. She wonders what kind of sleeping pill or tranquilizer they used on him. He did not wake up or flinched even after they jumped from the car. Fortunately, Bangs had only a tiny wound on his left leg because she hugged him as they rolled on the rocky ground.

"Does it hurt?" Dan asked, noticing her occasional look at her wounds
