Chapter 41: Maia's Departure

I opened the door to the house, my eyes stained with tears. My throat felt raw, so I went to the kitchen to fetch a glass of water. I slowly drank the water, thinking about all of the memories that Clyden and I made in this space. Tears threatened to spill from my eyes once again, but I held them in. After taking another gulp of the water, I quickly washed the cup and walked out of the kitchen.

The living room was dark, and the servants were all probably asleep. That’s a relief, I thought. I don’t want them seeing me in such a miserable state. I trudged up the stairs, savoring its feeling, knowing that it'll probably be the last time that I’ll be going up these stairs.

I entered my room and gently closed the door. I don’t want anyone waking up and seeing what I’m about to do. I looked at myself in the mirror and felt a tear escape from my eye. Although I was expecting this to happen, it still hurts now that it has been done. I
