Simon could feel the ache in his hand. The skin where his thumb and pointer met was aching. It was like it was being stabbed with tiny needles over and over again.

It started about an hour ago as he was waiting to pick up Zee; at first, it was barely there, but as time went on, the pain became more consistent and stronger.

But Simon didn't think much of it.

His mind and thoughts were focused solely on Zee. He was terrified of letting him out of his sight ever since he explained things to him. He feared that if he blinked too long, he would cease to exist anywhere but in his dreams. Nothing else mattered to him; nothing else fell on his radar. His soul's purpose in life was him. That's why he'd been waiting at the gateway all night for her to pick him up from her scheduled treatment. He prayed to the gods that those people leave Zee alone.
