Chapter 67 - The Dark Alpha's Pet

Ciara’s POV

I scurried through the tall grass as quickly as I could to reach the lake. I reach the pack border and lower myself to the ground into a large bush. I search for any sign of patrols by sniffing the air. A few moments later, three large wolves ran passed my hiding spot. I recognize two of them as part of our pack, but the third is a royal patrol guard. The royal guard stops momentarily and sniffs the air. I wiggle deeper into my hiding spot, holding my breath. I sigh with relief when he continues on his way. I tip toe through the shadows towards the lake; trying to keep my body as small as possible so I won’t be seen.

‘What do you think Owen will do, once he learns the truth, Ember?’ I whisper in my mind to my wolf.

She pads forwards slowly; I can see she is tired from the night’s events, but she refuses to rest in support of me. ‘I don’t know, Ciara. But whatever happens, I will be here for you.’ She lays down with her head on her front paws.
