Frustrated, I removed my headphones and set them on the table, switching my computers off. I closed my eyes and thought of a way around this, a way to still be safe so mom wouldn’t die out of hypertension and I wouldn’t have to spend the rest of my life in here.

‘You’re exaggerating,’ Lightning, my wolf, said to me.

‘What if Lilith never gets caught? What then?’

I got on my feet and pushed the chair away from me, snarling at my confinement as I held the window’s edge, looking out into the dark evening. It was just six pm but the sky was as dark and starless as a blood moon night.
