Hilda stayed quiet after I had updated her on everything we knew about this demon. It was just right I told her, at least it’d take her mind off constantly worrying about her brother. I knew how she felt, I knew how Kane felt, and I knew how everyone felt because the packhouse was impacted by all our shared feelings.

The brightness was gone, even when eye-blinding light was lit everywhere. There were no more gossiping and excited chirps from the maids. No one had been able to keep a smile on for too long and Kane was avoiding the packhouse as much as he could.

Everyone was trying to deal with my son’s disappearance and it took me the whole of yesterday night to eventually put myself together, piece by piece. It hurt more because his memories were still fresh in my head and sometimes, when my mind had wandered so far away that I didn’t even know where I was, I would have forgotten he wasn’t here.
