The air had gotten thicker as the awkward silence enveloped the garden. Shane became the center of attention, earning unpleasant gazes from everyone else. He blamed himself internally for being clueless but accepted the fact right away that he was at fault. Unfortunately, the others seemed not too comfortable to keep him around after what he’d said.

“Jared helped me,” Audrey blurted out after a long awkward silence. She figured the others didn’t know what to say in that situation. As Asher’s father, she thought Shane had to know how she managed to keep their baby in a such difficult situation she was in. “He was the one who brought me to the hospital when I happened to give birth in the car.”

“You what?” Shane raised his voice in utter surprise. He couldn’t believe his ears. He knew Audrey had trouble giving birth and felt bad not being by her side in hard times but didn’t expect it to the extent of her having labored in the car. “You were driving when you’re pregnant?”

“It was unexpe
