Chapter 29

Samantha POV

It has been two weeks since I arrived at the halfway house. I have fallen into a routine that now feels normal.

Each day we have a few tasks to do. Once you are done with your tasks, you are free to roam the grounds.

Even though we are free to do as we please, this is the same as a prison.

The gates are always closed and will only open for Lady Leila and her husband. They only go out once a week to do some shopping.

I have seen guards posted at the gates and at various places around the fence. I think they are scared that we are going to run away. Which is highly unlikely, we have nowhere else to go.

I am currently in the kitchen, staring out the window. Today is my turn to make dinner for everyone in the house. The ladies and I have already decided on soup for this evening.

The last three days have been cold and miserable. We haven't left the house once in the last three days. We have been too scared that we are going to freeze ourselves to death.
