Chapter 32

Zion emitted a low growl, which made me giggle because I knew exactly what he was thinking. I patted his chest, reassuring him that I needed to retrieve my babies and check on my pack in due time. Zion smiled, indicating his understanding. It seemed as though hell itself was against us when an explosive sound erupted from the ocean, sending water flying in all directions. Zion quickly left the room to investigate the commotion.

Screams, shouts, and the sound of gunfire soon came from the upper deck. Hiding, I prayed to the moon goddess that it wasn't Max causing the chaos, hoping it was someone else. Though not much better, it would mean we had evaded him.

When the noise subsided, I thought emerging and assessing the situation was safe. I was mistaken; one would think I'd have learned by now. But no, as I rounded the corner into the hallway, two men in ski masks charged towards me. Given its formidable power, I hesitated, unsure if I should unleash my banshee wail.
