Can't Stand That Beautiful Smile

“I'm tired of Utopia girls, mother,” I told my mother when I visited her that day.

I was 24 years old, graduated, and founded my textile business when I realised how boring it was to date girls from the Utopia. They were always the same, adoring my physical appearance as if it was the only good thing about me. So often, they praise me for my good looks; I'm getting sick of it. I don't mean to be arrogant, but believe me, being looked at from head to toe by a girl turns out to be annoying. There used to be a girl who gave me a love letter; she said, "I believe in my feelings, I have been watching you for months". Doesn't anyone realise how terrible it is? Does the strange girl say that she was often watching me without me knowing her existence? I don't know how much the girl has peeked at me. I was feeling sick. She was just like a crazy stalker.

Another competitor of my textile business said, "The company's stock rose just because of his handsome face". He never knew how hard I tried for this business. He never knew how much I had to risk my life to tell my abusive father that I didn't want to go to college anymore. Does he think that only with a handsome face can someone become rich? Maybe if you work in the prostitution business, but mine is a textile business.

When I visited my mother, I also asked her to find a wife for me.

"Can you find me a wife?" I ask her.

****************

Years spassed. I am 29 years old, and my greatest wish is to have a family of my own. I have bought a house on the outskirts of Utopia, and I want to live there with my mother and my wife and my children soon.

My mother has given me photos of young girls via social media several times.

"I think you want to have your own family, son?" she said while serving me cold drinks when I visited her house that day.

"I don't like any of the girls in the photos you send me."

My mother laughed.

"Erwin... I don't think I will be there on your wedding day."

"What did you say?."

“It feels… I have met the last days of my life.”

“Mother…Please don't say things like that….”

"No, son. I feel that the day of my death is coming.”

I walked over to my mother and hugged her tightly. I'm too shy to cry.

"Look at my son's strong arms," she said as she wept her tears. "My baby has grown into a nice and handsome man," she said.

"You can't leave me alone."

My mother was surprised; she seemed to have remembered something.

"Nadya," said my mother.

"Nadya... who is Nadya?"

"Nadya... Nadya, Erwin," said my mother while smiling strangely.

"She's a perfect girl for you."

"Which one is Nadya?" I said as I showed the photos my mother sent me.

"None of them...I don't have a picture of her"

“Then how can I choose her. Is she beautiful?"

"She is lovely. I think she will be a perfect partner for you. That girl, Nadya, is different from other girls I have ever met. How about I take you to meet her tomorrow?"

"Are you sure about this girl named Nadya? Was she that good and beautiful? Do you know her? Where did she come from? How old is she?"

"I know her well. She's from luzbell village, and she's only 19 years old…probably”

“From luzbell? 19 years? Are you sure she's good for me?"

"Erwin, my son. You asked me to find you a girl to become your wife, so I found the right one for you, that girl is Nadya. I can't find a better girl than her."

"I'm curious about this, Nadya. Let's meet here tomorrow."

“Then we will go.”

We went to Luzbell village the next day. I'm not sure my mother knows where Nadya lives because my car was going around. By that time, at 9 am, it was raining heavily.

“I think her house is down this lane,” my mother said when she saw the path beside the cornfield.

"Are you sure, mother?"

"Yes"

“Mother, I think there is someone under that tree. Maybe we can ask her where Nadya's house is, as well as give her a ride. It looks like she's caught in the rain and doesn't have an umbrella.” That's what I said when I saw someone taking shelter under a tree, it seemed that the person couldn't go anywhere because of this heavy rain. I took out the two umbrellas I brought with me. It's been raining a lot lately, so I prepare an umbrella wherever I go.

I was a bit surprised when I realised who the person caught in the rain was: fairy-tale beauty. Now, she looks more mature. I only caught a glimpse of her a few years ago, She looks prettier than before, her body has turned more mature, but I don't think her height has increased. I met her again, and does she still remember me as I remember her?

"Do you need a ride?" I said when I arrived in front of her. She nodded slowly.

"Come on; it's raining and cold. Let's get in my car. I'll take you home."

"Forgive me. I don't mean to be rude, but I don't ride in a stranger's car."

I laughed at what she said. We stared at each other in silence.

"Then take this umbrella. Use it for you to your home." She takes the umbrella I give her.

"Thank you, sir. How am I going to return this umbrella later?”

"No need, this umbrella is yours."

"Thank you very much, sir", she said. She smiled so beautiful, made my heart beat fast. She opened the umbrella and was about to leave.

"Wait..." I said when I saw she was about to leave.

"Where is your house? Don't you want me to take you, please think a once?"

"My house is there," she said, pointing her finger at the housing near the cornfield. That's when I remembered that I should have asked her for Nadya's location.

“Listen… I wanted to ask you about someone's address. May I?"

"Just ask me, sir." She smiled again. Oh my god, I can't stand that beautiful smile.

“Do you know a girl named Nadya? Where does she live?”

She looked surprised before saying, “Nadya? Which one? There are several girls named Nadya here, and even my name is also Nadya.”
