Chapter 4

*Time Skip—MONDAY

Alexis POV

"Lex get up" I groaned and pushed the hand away that shook me with force.

"Your name sounds almost like I'm saying 'Let's get up'" he said chortling.

He urged, "Come on, get up, otherwise we'll be late for school," and with each word, his voice grew fainter. I relaxed and closed my eyes as I started to drift off, thinking he had left me alone for good. I then felt a cool sensation slowly slipping down my back. I leaped from my bed, shaking whatever was in my clothes. An ice cube fell on the ground, and I flashed the culprit a death glare.

"Should have gotten up when I told you," he said shrugging.

"Out!" I said yelling at him. He snorted and quickly walked out of the room. Ugh!

Now that I was fully awake, I went straight to the bathroom to take a shower. Five minutes passed and I was out and now staring at the closet of clothes. #Theworsttimeofmyday. Even the desire to dress nicely and feel good about me is lacking. I take up my black and white Converse while reaching for some black sweats and a white hoodie with the word "BORED" in all Caps.

I gathered my stuff for school, grabbed my phone, and went downstairs.

"Hey," Alex said giving me his trademark cheeky smile. I gave him a deadpan look and walked past him.

"Did you really have to do that?" I asked while grabbing a plate.

"You weren't waking up, and being the best big brother I am, I did the next best thing I could to get you up," he said smiling innocently.

Rolling my eyes, I grabbed a slice of pizza from the island's box, put it on the plate, and heated it in the microwave.

My phone started to vibrate, so I took it out of my back pocket to see who had texted.

"Brit is at school," I said out loud.

"For someone who hates school she reaches there pretty early," Alex said chuckling.

I fixed my face with the best roguish smile.

"What?" He asked genuinely confused.

"Seriously," I breathe out a puff of air and gave him a dumbfounded look.

"What?" he asked again in a more annoying tone.

I rolled my eyes at him, "You know you may be sixteen minutes early, which probably implies you should've been smarter but you're one dumb person," I say shaking my head and walking past him.

"Wha—"

"Zip it dufus," I said cutting him off. I smiled to myself feeling a bit victorious for some reason.

I heard him grab the keys from the key holder, so I picked up my pace and headed for shotgun.

For the second time today, I feel my phone vibrate.

"No wonder we weren't getting dad last night" I spoke aloud for Alex to hear.

"Why," He asked locking his door.

"He went out yesterday and bunked out as soon as he reached back to the hotel, he has his flight to catch tomorrow too," I spoke.

"First his flight got canceled on Friday when he reached Italy because something was wrong with the engine, so they had to bring the passengers to the nearest hotel, and then Saturday and yesterday he was running late for his flight. I think this is the universe's way of telling him not to go" he said starting the engine.

"Well, he deserves the little rest he got, that old man is always working." he continued.

"You're lucky he isn't here to hear you calling him old man," I said chuckling as we headed off to school.

"Right," he said smiling.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You're one minute earlier than yesterday so I'll let this pass," Brit said tapping her watch.
"Tell me why again you come to this drainage so early," I asked walking sluggishly.
"To catch the daily gossip of course" she responded in a duh tone.
"Right," I said nonchalantly.
"And what gossip did you get today?" I asked letting my curious mind wander.
"I don't always get the hottest tea but today I heard some new hotties are transferring," she said giggling.
"The school's definition of hot and my definition of hot have two completely different meanings,"
"Not my words" she held her hands up in defense.
"Who's hot?" Alex asked shoulder-bumping Brit and within 5 seconds her cheeks reddened. I tried to keep in my laughter.
"Are you guys talking about me?" he added bouncing his eyebrows.
My face automatically cringed but I swallowed down the comment I had.
"No, some kids are transferring to our school today," I simply say
"And they're hot?" He asked rhetorically while making a face "Sometimes I still wonder how you guys know all this, like HOW?" he said not directing the question to me but his eyes focused on Brit.
She pursed her lips and held her hands in an "I Don't Know" gesture. "I simply hear and I relate back to you guys."
Suddenly the bell for homeroom rang and we walked to class. As soon as we entered the classroom, we could hear students whispering—more whispers than usual, particularly among the girls today.
"Which class will they be transferring to?" I hear Courtney ask Sally.
"Quiet down!" Our homeroom teacher nagged at the two.
"Why are her panties always twisted in a bunch?" I ask myself. I took out a book from my bag and started to draw meaningless images.
"Quick announcement students. We have three newcomers this morning, I thought they would've been here by now so I could we—" she was saying but then I hear her words were cut short when I heard the door open.
"Sorry we're late" I hear a familiar chirpy voice say.
I quickly looked up from my doodling and saw Vy. Slowly my eyes moved to the boy who stood in the middle, and his best friend who stood to his right.
"No No, you're right on time," Miss Sinclair says. Despite the fact that her name conjures up images of sweetness and peace, she was anything but.
"You may come in," Miss Sinclair said smiling. She was plump in body and most of the students in the class were taller than her including me. Her light brown hair with dark highlights cut into a choppy bob enhanced her good looks and made her appear to be in her mid-thirties and we all know she wasn't, but who cares. She had large, gorgeous blue eyes, but they were hidden by her glasses. If only she were as kind as she appears.
I looked at Brit and Alex seeing them making the same cringing expression I was making. They moved away from the door and came to the center of the board.
"You can go ahead and introduce yourself," she added, hands gesturing to the class.
"Good morning, my name is Vy with a 'y' short for Vylet, but I prefer Vy, my last name is Pierce and I can say for the two here and me that we're new in town," Vy said smiling with her chirpy demeanor.
"My name is Tyler with a 'y', Tyler Anderson," he said mocking his girlfriend, the class laughed lightly which made Vy look at him with a death glare but failed miserably when he gave her a peck on the cheek. The class "Ooouu'd" at them which made Miss Sinclair cast an annoying glare at them.
"I'm Xavier Hunter," he said simply, and suddenly I hear whispers and giggles from the girls beside me.
"Thank you, you three, you can sit anywhere you like," Probably disliking them already for the little stunt the two pulled earlier. Sorry, Miss Sinclair no Miss or Mr. Perfect for you today.
Xavier scans the room with his eyes before focusing thoughtfully on me. His eyes shifted to the three contiguous seats in front of us as the corner of his mouth raised slightly. He moved forward and toward us, and for some reason, I felt as though my heart skipped a beat. What do you call it? Fluttered. My heart fluttered. I'm unsure of the best way to describe that.
"Heyyy!" Vy said, and then all of a sudden, I hear the others murmuring, perhaps wondering if we knew them beforehand.
"Hey", Alex, Vy, and I answered in unison.
"What a coincidence huh" she exclaimed and I chuckled lightly.
"Yeah"
"Yeah, such coincidence" I hear Alex mutter. Xavier took the corner seat gazing out the window, Tyler sat beside him, and then Vy took the end seat.
"Okay so that's out the way, let's start the attendance now," Miss Sinclair says disrupting the mumble and giggles that filled the air.
After five minutes of registration, biology students began to swarm the room, and the visual arts students started to disperse for their classes.
"Biology being the first subject for the day is not really my forte," I said groaning. Quickly I and my brother looked at each other smiling.
"Ouu that rhymed," we said in unison and we ended up laughing.
"Aw I wish I had a twin" Vy says pouting.
In our cliché sync, we shook our heads and relayed, "Nah you wouldn't, it's a real pain in the ass."
Vy gazed at Tyler while staring at us in awe and amazement. I smiled at her since I'm used to this kind of response, but I gradually turned my attention to the boy who was sketching on his desk with a closed tap pen. In the corner of my eyes, I see Vy looking back and forth between us giving a cheeky smirk that she didn't even try to hide.
"Hey, Lexi" Brit says whining.
"I know that sound, you're a sore loser again, aren't you?" I say leaning back in my seat
"I tried alright," she replied shoving the phone in my hand.
"You could've asked me to do it," Alex said using his hand to hold up his big ass head. Brit looked at him funny.
"I'm pretty sure you're just at level 11 and you're already crying and whining that you're 'done with this shit ass game'" she says quoting his words. "So how are you going to beat my level of 248?" Alex chuckled nervously.
"You make a solid point"
"Phone's down, pencils out and textbook open please," Professor says walking in.
"I'll do it later," I told her.
"Oh, I see we have new students in our class today," Mr. Keystone says looking up from his sheets of paper.
"Mr. Xavier, Mr. Taylor—"
"Tyler sir," Tyler says correcting him
"Oh sorry, and Miss Pierce, welcome to Biology class. Ok, enough of that let's get into our lesson. What did we talk about last class?" Cleva raised her hand and Mr. Keystone accepted it.
"The Circulatory System" she relates.
"Thank you, Miss Cleva. Yes, so who can remind me of the main features of the Circulatory System?" He asks picking up his marker and heading to the whiteboard.
"Blood Vessels," Cleva says
"Yes, what else?"
"A heart to pump the fluid through the vessels,"
"Thank you, Miss Pierce," Professor says smiling.
"And fluids so we can transport both wastes and nutrients," I added
"Good, so we continue with the topic 'Circulatory System' and the subtopic will be 'Components of the Circulatory System',"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Ok make sure you do your homework for the next class," Mr. Keystone shouts as we exit to our next class.

"What class do you have next?' I asked turning to the three.

"English" A smile spread across my face.

"Us too," Brit says, and Vy giggles.

"Such coincidence," I hear Alex mumble under his breath for the second time today. My head quickly turned to him and he was glaring at Xavier for God knows why. My eyes moved to Xavier whose eyes conjured mine, but he gently turned away and instead arched an eyebrow as he peered at Alex and I uncomfortably cleared my throat.

"O-Kay let's get to class before we're marked absent."

"Y-yeah" Brit says who was witnessing the glaring scene before us. I took Alex by the hand, linking our arms together.

"What's up with you?" I asked genuinely concerned.

"You've been glaring at Xavier since he showed up, especially on Friday,"

"There's just something off about that guy, and not just him, his friends too,"

"Nothing is off about them Alex, they're just some teenagers new into the town who came to school one month before the Christmas Holidays, that's totally normal," I said shrugging

"Look at the new girl, I think her name is Fiona?" I asked directing the question to me.

"Hey Brit, what's the name of the new girl who came in last week?" I asked Brit who stopped her conversation with Vy.

"You mean Fiona, Fiona Gayle,"

"Yeah thanks," Just as I was ready to turn back to Alex, I glanced over at the two of them talking. I couldn't hear a word they were saying, but Xavier's expression said "Tired" even though they seemed to be talking about something rather secretive. I shrugged it off and continued my reassurance speech to Alex.

"Yes, as I was saying, Fiona, she came in just last week, and she's absolutely fine, nothing unusual about her, and if they were, we would've heard about it by now," he groaned looking frustrated, and I knew I was almost at the final hit on the nail.

He sighed once again as he turned to face the other people.

"I guess you're right," BINGO. I smiled at him

"Bro I'm always right," He gave me a look and chuckled.

"You can't believe what I just heard," A random girl said squealing to her friend and suddenly I heard mummers in the entire hallway.

"Mr. Dunkan" I hear a girl say looking shocked and covering her mouth.

"What about Mr. Dunkan?" I ask out loud hoping anyone could answer me.

"O. MY. GOD!" Brit says slowly. I turned around to Brit seeing her staring at her phone in surprise. I knew it was about what everyone was talking about, this was pretty much how it normally was. As soon as the news spreads, not even a solid 10 minutes in will pass and her phone isn't blaring with messages about the hot tea.

"Come on, tell us," I said impatiently.

"Mr. Dunkan and—" However, she was interrupted before she could continue her sentence as the door to the principal's office opened. When two officers came out of the room, me and Alex, who were both standing directly in front of the door, quickly sidestepped. When they turned to the side, I noticed Mr. Dunkan moving in front of another officer while being restrained. They passed us and disappeared around the corner.

"What is going on?" Suddenly the situation became self-explanatory when I saw Fiona being slapped with a slipper by her mother.

And she stood there sobbing and taking them all.

"Oh!" Alex and I said in unison making our voices sound like one. Her was wild and her clothes rugged.

"How could you!" I hear her mom say through her own sobs.

"You're just like your dad, slutting around," Ouch.

Ms. Walker the principal, who seemed to have been on an important call, paused and a quick second later she seemed to have hanged up placing the phone down. "Ms. Gayle please calm down, we are still at school," she says trying to calm down the angry crushed mom.

Fiona's mother sobbed uncontrollably as she sat on a chair, her face in her hands. "I'm not sure what else to do with you," Her mom said confessing. I turned to face Fiona, who was holding a regretful and anxious expression.

As if hearing the loud whispers outside her office Ms. Walker quickly turned to the direction of her door as if remembering her door was wide open. Sighing for the second time now she came out of her office.

"Go to class," she shouted "Or you'll have something on your permanent records to be regretful about,"

Respecting her orders, I and the others scurried off not really caring if the other students were heeding her warning or not and we were obviously late.

Alex doesn't trust them at all huh💀😭...

Sorry for not uploading last week🙏🥺... For me to actually formulate words for my stories I have to write them down on paper first before even deciding to type, though it's actually what's taking up my time.😒

Happy Note: I was writing Chapter 4 today and realized it was super long so I'll break it into two parts. This means I'll be uploading the other part tomorrow as Chapter 5.😊
