Thirty Six

“Dead? How the hell can he be dead!” Jacques hissed in irritation as he stormed through the cell entrance. “He was perfectly alive last night!” Jacques observed the rogue, looking for any sign of life. Clearly, he didn’t find any because moments later he threw his hands in the air in exasperation as he turned to Nate.

Nate clenched his jaw and gritted his teeth, a deadly expression took over his face. If I didn’t know him better, I would be petrified to make eye contact. “Xavier, explain” he spoke to the warrior behind me. His voice was calm and low, but there was a dangerous tint that promised to take over if he didn’t get the answer he wanted.

As the guard stepped forward from behind me, Nate lifted from his knees and stood straight. Towering over all of us, he folded his arms across his chest whilst he watched the warrior, Xavier, with an expression cold enough to send shivers down my spine.
