Chapter Eight: Music and Mama Bear

They reached the camp and Motus wanted to speak, but didn't know what to say. He felt bad for scaring her and wanted to make amends for his bad choice. He had grown to like her very much and didn't want to ruin any chances with her.

Atzi pitched her tent and started a fire afterwards. She stared at the burning orange flames, the floating embers and listened to the cackling wood as it burned. The noises of the fire were all that filled that night's cool air. Motus settled near her but still gave her space. She found her earbuds in her bag and put them in  her ears, linked them to her cellphone and began to listen to her music.

After a few minutes, Atzi stood up and went towards the lake. Motus watched her and followed behind a bit, worried for her to be safe. Atzi began to jog around the lake as a way to think better.

Her music picked up pace and so did her running pace. Her heart raced even more as she picked up speed. Her head lowered as she leaned forwards. Her adrenaline grew and soon her glow shone again and soon Atzi was the wolf again , running fast.

Motus realized her face paced music helped raise her adrenaline which seemed to be the real trigger for the powers. It helped her focus them to use them longer as the music went on.

Motus howled and followed on her tail. They ran together, yapping and howling. Their noises attracted another creature to them.

A bellowing roar sounded as they ran upon a large mama grizzly and her cub. Atzi skidded to a stop as the mama bear reared up roaring. Her large paws swung at them as they split apart.

Motus growled and barked as Atzi ran behind the bear. She slid aside and jumped on the bear's back. Her claws held the bear's fur while the bear tried to fling her off. Motus ran and head butted the bear's stomach and made them all tumble to the ground.

Atzi laid aside and shook her head. Her glow started to fade, but she saw the bear going towards the stunned Motus. She snarled and ran towards the bear, her glow getting brighter.

She tackled the grizzly and gnashed her jaws at it, drawing it away from Motus, keeping him safe. She didn't know why, but her mind as the she wolf was constantly saying "protect the Alpha."

Motus got up and ran at the bear chasing it away. Once it was gone a good distance away from the pair, Atzi swayed her tail and nosed Motus to see if he was okay. Her ears flicked hearing his grumbles and she sat near him, giving a light huff to him as a thanks. Her glow slowly faded and she once again  was lying  motionless and exhausted on the ground.

Motus curls around her to keep her warm from the now blowing wind and goes to sleep next to her.
