Chapter 3

When Alexander got the phone from Gavin, he was not happy.  He knew that Symphony would be found out eventually, but he was not expecting the message that she had gotten. He had immediately cancelled the meetings that he had and rushed home.  When he got there, he was met by Gavin and was handed the package that Symphony had received.   The writing looked familiar to him, but he couldn't place it.  No one was supposed to know Symphony even existed and thought that this was a mistake.

He had Gavin look into the security cameras to see if he could find anything while he put his best trackers on to see if they could pick up a sent from the package, unfortunately there was no luck on either front.  He was getting angry and the Lycan side of him wanted blood.  He knew after Symphony turned 16, she would be having her first shift at any time, and he wanted this person caught before then.

He headed up the stairs towards Symphony’s room and could hear her crying softly.  He stopped at her door thinking about going in but his Lycan half, Dax, talked him out of it.

“She will be ok” Dax said.  Alexander rolled his eyes at this. “If you push her to far you will have lost everything that you worked for”

Dax made a good point.  Alexander had taken Symphony to use her power and rule the world.  He had let himself get too involved with her and he started to care about her.  He didn’t like the feelings he was having, and Dax knew that too.  Lycans don’t get mates like the wolves do and very seldom do wolves mate with Lycans, but he would make her his whether she wanted him too not.  Things were going good until now, he kept himself busy with work and running his kingdom and once she got old enough to really notice things, he stopped letting her come into his office while he worked, he kept his distance and only gotten involved when he needed to, but this felt different. Normally he would have let Gavin handle things like this on his own, but this hit him differently, he felt the need to protect Symphony with everything that he had, and he didn’t know why.  Dax was even confused by Alexander’s actions because he had a plan and he was not one to detour from those plans, yet here he was caring that Symphony was being threatened.

When Symphony awoke the next morning, she was surprised to see Alexander sitting at the head of the table where she normally ate breakfast alone.  She made her way to the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee and cereal and sat down to eat.  Alexander cleared his throat causing her to look at him.

“Gavin told me about last light” He started “He also told me that he made the decision to keep you from school until this is resolved, I agree with him on that, but you still need to get an education and there is no guarantee that this will be fixed quickly”

Symphony just looked at him with tired eyes and shrugged her shoulders “At this point I am ahead in my classes as you know and can miss a few days without it affecting anything, but I am not going to hide just because of a note.  I am just a regular wolf and there is nothing special about me, sure I have abilities that I know are not normal among the regular wolves, but you can't stop me from going to school” she was quiet for a moment. Never had she spoken like that to him before and she wasn't sure how he was going to react.  She held her breath for what seemed like an eternity waiting for him to answer when he finally did, it was not the answer she was expecting from him.

Alexander took a moment to consider her words and he needed to find a compromise to keep her safe but at the same time keep her happy or she might leave. “Well, how about we meet in the middle? I will allow you to continue going to school but I am hiring more guards to be involved around the school and in your classes.  Does that sound fair?” He waited as she processed what he had said, she wasn’t stupid by any means, and he knew if she wanted to go to school this was her best choice.

Symphony thought about this for a minute.  She hated the thought of more guards than just Gavin around, but this was one compromise she wouldn't be able to get a better deal out of.  She sighed and nodded her head letting Alexander know that she agreed with him.  She finished eating and placed her dishes in the sink.

As she went to leave the kitchen, she had a sharp pain rush through her that felt like a million knives poking into her.  She fell to the ground screaming in pain.  Alexander caught her before she hit the floor and yelled to someone, but she couldn't make out who.  The next thing she remembered was the sound of her bones breaking.

When she came to, she was still in the kitchen, but everything felt different, smelt different, and sounded different. She saw Alexander sitting beside her staring at her in awe, Gavin was in the doorway looking like he saw a ghost. She went to ask him what his problem was and to quit staring at her, but she couldn’t talk, instead a low growl emerged from her throat. She looked at Alexander confused and tried to talk again this time it was small barks that came out of her mouth. Alexander smiled and started laughing, which pissed her off.  She turned toward Gavin, and he was holding a mirror up to her with a smile on his face as well.  Where she fell stood a beautiful white wolf. She turned her head the wolf did the same. She about jumped out her skin when she heard the voice.

“Hello, little one, I’ve been waiting to meet you.  My name is Starlett, and I am your wolf.”

Symphony then shifted back to her normal self and Alexander took off his suit jacket to give to her.  She was amazing.
