As I hold Ward in my arms I look at my mother with confusion in my eyes.

"I don't understand," I whisper as I stroke my fingers along his brow. "Why haven't I felt the effects of the mate bond before?"

My mother walks over to me with a concerned look in her eyes. "I think this may have something to do with what Ward was trying to explain to us before he was interrupted by the rogue attack."

I look down at the man that is laying in my arms and I let out a sigh. This is exactly what I wanted from the moment I laid eyes on Ward. I wanted him to be my mate but I don't understand why I didn't feel the pull of the mate bond sooner.
