CHAPTER-6: ESTHER

“This is gigantic and so gorgeous.” I muttered looking at the Restaurant building before we pulled up the car in the parking lot.

“Wait till you go inside!” Annie said cheekily. She was thrilled to have me around her at the workplace because according to her, everyone was bitchy there.

We entered the Restaurant which had a rooftop facility for brunch dates and for sunsets which I especially loved. It was a magnificent restaurant and the extravagant in New York city as per Annie’s words. That's why a few high class people were gathered at one big table for a party I guess.

We walked through the bar area into the big door behind which the Manager's office was located. Annie took me there directly for my job. I interacted with a man in his late thirties scolding a few waitresses who had their heads down.

“Do you realise who he is? If you had known, then you wouldn't have dared to spill the drink on his hand. Bloody morons! Get out of my sight. You are fired.” He yelled at one of the waitresses who cried out and sauntered towards the door but I was standing on the way. Before I could slide to the side she glared at me with her hostile eyes and shoved me into the arms of my cousin before storming out.

What the fudge!

I looked at Annie, ridiculously but she only smiled sweetly at me before steadying me.

“Callum, can I take a few minutes of yours?” Annie asked him politely. He turned his head towards us and blinked up. Without saying anything, he turned towards the other two waitresses.

What the heck!

I again looked at Annie for an explanation of this behaviour.

“He will listen!” She whispered in my ear. I almost chuckled. What kind of behaviour do these people possess?

Of course, Exotic cuisines and their Exotic code of conduct!

“You both, next time you transfer your responsibility to each other, I will not tolerate it. Do whatever job is assigned to you, even if you have five tasks in hand at a time. Don't be lazy!” The manager, Callum chastised them before dismissing them. Both of them glared at me before walking out.

I ignored them and followed Annie as she approached him.

“Callum, you asked me to find additional staff, so here we have Pearl Addison. You can give her the job because she has good experience in her previous jobs.” Annie smiled, gesturing towards me whereas I blankly looked at her.

What experience is she talking about?

Callum looked at me from head to toe with his calculating eyes. I cleared my throat and introduced myself.

“I won't stand tardiness, laziness and clumsiness in my place. If you can pass with the demo then you will be selected.” He announced curtly.

“Take her and teach her the main things.” He told Annie who nodded before we came out of his office.

“What does he mean by teaching things?” I asked her as she took me to the magnificent kitchen. Everything was clean and shining there with the chefs and butlers working around.

“You have to work on your toes for a week as I tell you, only then he will select you for the job. You see, the salary would be good so you don't have to worry about your expenses. You are lucky that you got an offer the next day you landed here.”

I sighed. I had no other option than to follow her demands. Jordan, just because of you!

She taught me many things such as how to welcome, greet or guide the high-class people there and act as politely as we can. Because the people of course have less patience.

Rich brats!

My way of talking, walking and expressing was taught to me by Annie specially. Really, this Restaurant has unique requirements to work here.

My first day went well as Callum didn't point out anything after seeing my performance.

“So, let's go for a little celebration as you have got this job now.” Annie cheekily said. I rolled my eyes.

“It's not final yet. Your manager didn't confirm it.” I let out.

“He will. I know him. He trusts me with my decisions, that's why he makes me run hot on my heels sometimes.” She groaned, probably thinking about her struggling days.

“I hope so!”

We pulled over at a small cafe. Annie and I walked inside before taking a small table at the corner. People were coming and going and I reckoned the business people were regular here as the cafe was situated at the main corner of the city.

“So what do you want to have? The treat is mine!” She offered. I smirked as I grabbed the menu and went through the drinks to find my favourite cappuccino and pastry. We ordered our things and enjoyed ourselves. Annie went to the washroom before asking me to wait outside.

I was walking outside focusing on my phone as the broken screen was making it difficult to read contents on it when I bumped into some lady who was trying to enter inside but knocked into me as well at the door and her purse with things inside it fell and scattered around on the ground.

“Oh Goddess! I'm sorry, I was in a hurry!” She apologised immediately before bending down.

“It's alright. I also was not seeing.” I said and helped her with the things to pick up. We both stood up and I saw her beautiful face behind those black shades and scarf around her head.

“Thank you!” she said removing her shades and I was greeted with the electric blue eyes on her gorgeous face. She was a beautiful lady.

“You are welcome!” I said smiling. She nodded looking at me, unblinking.

“Iam Esther, by the way. I was in a hurry to grab one hot chocolate for my kid. He is such a moody!” She chuckled.

“Hey Esther, Iam Pearl.” I shook hands with her.

“Such a beautiful name! Are you new here, Pearl?” She asked me out of the blue. My smile faded as I blinked up at her. Her eyes were looking through my soul.
