As I watched my sister-in-law Katarina I couldn’t believe that I was doing this. She was not a part of our world at birth, her mother left her with a lackey and he didn’t do anything to prepare her for the ways of the mafia. I knew I had my work cut out for me. We had been practicing for days and she didn’t seem to be getting it at all. Alejandro came by today to see her progress and I was squeamish about what he would think.

She picked up the balanced blade, holding the knife by the handle to throw in a pinch grip, she angled the knife, and assuming proper stance she threw it at the cardboard cutout. It flipped in the air and landed away from it.

“ Again.” I said as I walked up to her and fixed her stance. “ Hit the target this time.”

Katarina took her stance and looked at Alejandro as he stood nearby smoking a cigarette, watching closely.
