Hazel’s POV

It seemed like my question had unlocked a different kind of emotion in him as he fell in my arms and I staggered a little bit but soon balanced.

I knew at that moment that I needed to offer him comfort in any way that I could because I knew how much he loved Betsy.

“She died in my arms, Hazel.” He sobbed and I just asked him to let it all out instead of talking. I felt kind of happy that he still found me worthy enough to show this kind of vulnerability around me.

It’s been years and seeing Damian in a state like this somehow gave me the assurance that I needed that a part of him that was always comfortable with me was still there.

“You’re okay, you’ll be fine.” I assured him in a whisper and I swallowed when I felt him hold me tighter and pulled me closer into him.

“I thought that…” he was still trying to talk when I hushed him to keep silent and we both stood there in the middle of the large sitting room for a while as he let it all out.
