Chapter Forty-Two

“I thought you left?” I said as I came to a halt beside Jasper on the front porch of the Alpha House.

Jasper’s presence at the pack in the last few days had been scarce, to say the least, the lack of confidence Moon Shadowers displayed after his return was both interesting and sad to watch after all Jasper had come to mean to the pack.

“Can’t say it hasn’t been tempting.” He shrugged his left shoulder.

“They were hurt when you left so suddenly… We all were.” I added softly.

“That’s the one thing I miss the most about living alone in the woods.” He shook his head regretfully, “Too bad the Moon Goddess couldn’t leave me alone.” He scoffed softly, the irony of his words was not lost on me.

“You missed the party you know?” My jaw tensed.

“Not really my scene.” Jasper looked at me for the first time sending me a tight smile.

“Why haven’t you left, Jasper?” I angled my body to face him and crossed my arms over my chest, I was curious to know his answer.
