What the fuck is going on? I thought, my irritation mounting.

Jade came up from behind me and tried to move past me. I subtly shifted in her direction, trying to block her from doing so.

"Jade!" Albert exclaimed, an irritating grin spreading across his face as he turned towards her.

I felt a twinge of annoyance at the familiarity with which he called her name. My fists clenched and ached to be introduced to his smarmy and highly polished face.

He isn't even that handsome, I thought fiercely to myself. I studied Albert with a critical eye. He stood there, an air of self-assuredness surrounding him, but there was something about the way he carried himself that rubbed me the wrong way. I definitely did not think he should be anywhere near Jade.

Or could it be that you are just jealous, that inner voice drawled sarcastically.

I immediately shook my head and growled inwardly.

Definitely not! What do I have to be jealous of?
