The Strange message

"Deal, Sparrow," I said, watching a subtle smile play on her lips. It seemed I had successfully diverted her attention, at least momentarily, from the weighty matters at hand.

"Now, about that dream of yours," she prodded, her eyes searching mine for an explanation.

I sighed, deciding it was time to share a part of my past with her. "It wasn't just any dream. It was a memory."

Her eyes softened as she absorbed the revelation. "Who was she to you?"

"She was someone important. But that's a story for another time."

Jade nodded, understanding the need for discretion. The air hung heavy with unspoken words, our bodies still tingling from the interrupted moment of intimacy.

"Let's focus on us, Sparrow," I suggested, my gaze meeting hers. "What made you stop us back there?"

"Brad."

"Because he called or because he called?" I asked, hiding the look that had probably crossed her face, by making a pretense of walking over to one of the plush chairs she had in her office.
