Chapter 33

Maya carefully parked her car next to the curb and shut off the engine before turning to face Jason who was already unbuckling his seatbelt, “You okay buddy?” She asked softly, trying not to startle him as she leaned over to open his door for him.

He smiled weakly at her in reply as he slid out of the vehicle, “Yeah, I just...I’m sorry that you had to come all this way."

She shook her head, giving him a small grin, "It's no big deal, just rest up and you'll be fine."

He nodded, then bent low and raised his hand, "Thanks for today, Derek!"

He called over to where Derek sat, his arm draped over the back of the driver’s seat easily, Derek chuckled, raising an arm in reply, “Hey man. Anytime."

Jason grinned again before jogging over to the pavement leading up to the front doors of the frat house. As Maya watched his retreating back, she sighed softly, turned, and twisted the key back into the ignition. The engine sputtered once or twice before starting with a quiet purr and she smiled. S
