Prologue

Prologue:

“Where am I?” Iris asks as light blinds her.

She remembers her and Joey in the woods, under the full moon for her first shift.

“I want to kiss my perfect mate,” Joey smiles at her, running his fingers through her dark black hair.

Iris had smiled sweetly and leaned in, so their lips touched effortlessly.

Their tongues massaged each other as their hands explored each other’s bodies.

He had seduced her by kissing and sucking on her marking spot. She can still feel his fingers as they fumbled inside of her preparing her for him. As her eyes adjust to the light, Iris hears his voice.

“May I make love to and mark my perfect mate?” Joey’s calm breathes increased her desire for him.

“Yes, make me yours forever,” Iris whispered back.

They quickly undress. Iris thought he would be gentle, but he was not.

She wasn’t ready when he took her virginity, but it started to feel good after a few thrusts.

“Iris, you are amazing,” Joey whispers to her. “You feel so good.”

He sped up, making her moan.

“Joey, I think it’s time,” Iris moans and opens her neck.

She thought he was marking her as she exploded in pleasure, but now, she is in a meadow, bright with sunlight, blinding her.

She forgets her perfect memory. She guesses she passed out while he marked her and now she is dreaming.

“You are dead,” A tall, slender woman with silver hair and dark skin tells her pointedly.

“No, I was with my mate, he marked me,” Iris protests harshly.

The woman scoffs. “No, the prick you felt wasn’t his canines, it was a needle. He injected you with wolfsbane and silver. He killed you at the height of your orgasm. See.”

She points to a pool, where Iris sees Joey still naked, but not alone with her. He and her stepsister Ingrid are laughing as they throw a naked and lifeless Iris into a hole.

“With Iris out of the way and Darius dead, you and I will be the new Alpha and Luna,” Ingrid runs her hands through Joey’s hair, making him hum in pleasure at her touch. “I know what you had to do to get her guard down. Want to make love to a real woman?”

Iris turns away as Ingrid and Joey have passionate sex on the ground near the hole Iris’s body lays in.

Iris feels sick as the sounds of their passion increase to a fever pitch.

“Yes, Joey, YES,” Ingrid cries and Joey grunts. “Mark me, Baby.”

“Will you mark me?” Joey’s voice once soothing and loving, now grates Iris’s ears.

“Yes, my love, oh, YES,” Ingrid moans.

Iris peeks as her mate marks her stepsister. She sees the satisfying look on Ingrid’s face. Ingrid’s eyes actually wonder to the hole where Iris lays. Ingrid smirks before biting into Joey.

“Why is this happening?” Iris asks the silver haired lady, while crying a fountain of tears.

The woman laughs. “You believed that Daria and Ingrid were meant to be your saviors. No matter how many signs I sent your stupid father. Now you and he both have paid the price. Only, I brought you here. Your father on the other hand, well he has to work his way here.”

“What are you talking about?” Ingrid asks.

“You are part of a game,” the lady starts, but is interrupted by a familiar voice.

“Can you two pull away from each other long enough to help me with this Alpha idiot?” Daria’s sweet angelic voice draws Iris to look back.

Daria, her stepmother, who had cared so much, who had loved her so well, is dragging Iris’s father, Daris, to the hole in the ground.

“Sorry, we marked each other,” Joey kisses Daria’s cheek. “I would have carried him for you, Baby.”

Joey then drags Darius to the hole and throws him in. When he turns back, he draws Daria to him by sticking his finger in her cleavage and pulling. Their lips crash as if they had kissed before.

“We need to test the theory that chosen mates can’t feel betrayal,” Daria smirks, stroking Joey knowingly.

“Do I have to watch?” Ingrid asks bored.

“You can or you can turn away. The only thing we care about is if can you feel it,” Daria pulls Joey to her.

“Is he going to…?” Iris asks, her stomach turning.

Soon, the sounds of passion fill the space again.

Iris actually throws up, realizing Joey and her stepmother are having sex.

“I know, disgusting,” The woman holds Iris’s black hair back and rubs Iris’s back.

“Why? Why is this happening?” Iris asks again, screaming and choking on tears.

“It’s a little complicated. I’ll tell you what I can. You get three chances to make it right. I am sorry to say I agreed to a game with the god of the Sea. He says his creations are stronger than mine. Daria has already been re-born once. If she fails twice more, I win. So, you get to go back,” the lady tells Iris. “You get three chances. If you can’t defeat Daria and Ingrid, then I lose, and you stay dead.”

“What if I can defeat them? I don’t want Joey back. He is sick,” Iris shutters.

The lady laughs. “Okay. I can’t promise it will be easy, but I promise to find you a love they will write legends about.”

“If I win, will Poseidon be angry with me?” Iris asks.

The woman thinks, “Most likely. So, I will give you a mate who can defeat him if needed. I think I know? I know just the guy. Oh, and I am giving you an old wolf, Zaphyra. She is ancient, like my rivalry with Poseidon. She will be with you as soon as you are reborn, but no one will sense her. Not until you turn 18. She will just be there to guide you.”

“You are Selene?” Iris asks, her eyes widening in shock.

“The very only one,” Selene smiles showing off her perfect smile. “Poseidon has been angry ever since humans claim the moon controls the tides. I’m sorry he chose your pack.”

“So, what does Daria failing look like?” Iris asks, wiping her eyes and preparing for the battle ahead.

“You and your father alive and her dead,” Selene tells her. “Now the rules say I can only send you back three months and other than giving you a strong wolf, I can’t enhance you at all. So, when you get back you have to enhance yourself.”

“Daria will never allow me to train,” Iris says, rolling her eyes. “I’m too delicate.”

“You will have to find a way. If you defeat her twice, then you win, we win. And I promise you a happily ever after.”

Iris takes a deep breath. “Okay, let’s do this. Take me back three months ago.”
