CHAPTER NINETY THREE

Scarlett’s POV

The soldier took a big breath and looked at me with kind eyes. He said, "When Freda and her group were leaving, they had a lot of trouble with the enemy. Something exploded, and she got very hurt. The doctors are doing their best, but it's a really serious situation."

I tried to understand what he was saying, but it was hard. Freda, my best friend, was fighting to stay alive. I felt tears coming, but I didn't want to cry. I had to be strong for her and for our group.

"What are the chances that she'll get better?" I asked, my voice shaking. "Will she be okay?"

The soldier looked sad and sorry when he answered, "It's hard to know for sure. Her injuries are really bad, and she's in critical condition. The doctors are trying their hardest, but they told us it's uncertain if she'll survive."

I took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "What can I do to help?" I asked, speaking softly.
