While in the taxi, trying to ignore the driver’s occasional glances, I dialed Kai’s number. Alistair had given it to me yesterday. “Please pick up.” I whispered, tapping my foot impatiently. Two rings after, he answered. “Hello? Who is this?” My heart fluttered when I heard his voice. Get it together!
