“Where do you live?” he asks.

“Where we’re staying isn’t far from here,” I tell him. “It’s just a few blocks away. I’m staying with my friend.”

“Do you mind if I know where you both live?” He smiles.

I nod and smile back. “Of course, Vishal. Let’s go.” I take him to where we live, chatting with him on the way.

“Are you saying that you live here?” he asks when we arrive.

I know the building looks weak, like it could collapse at any minute, but I’m glad we found a place to stay. Though it’s not in the best condition, I can tell he must be surprised that I live in this nearly shattered building.

“Yes, do you have a problem with where I live?” I ask him.

“Ha, no. I have no problem with it. I’m just surprised you live in a building like this.”

“I’m living here because it’s cheap,” I say. “This is the best we can afford with our meager pay.”

“Oh, I see,” he says. “Could you move out if I ask you to?”

“No, thank you,” I respond. “I’m okay with what I have. Will you come in?”

“Yes, let’s
