Chapter 28

EVA'S POV

As I trudged up the stairs to my room, my mind was swirling with confusion and frustration. My father's strange behavior in the garden had completely spoiled my mood, and I couldn't shake the feeling that he was indeed hiding something from me, his only child and heir.

Once I got inside my room, I began pacing back and forth, my mind racing with thoughts of what my father could be keeping from me. I had a feeling that he had only agreed to my mating with Adrian because he didn't want to expose whatever it was that he was hiding from me – I couldn't help but wonder if his sudden change of heart had something to do with this secret of his.

As I thought about his words, I felt a twinge of irritation. My mother couldn't even help out, she had been uncharacteristically quiet during our argument and just sat there – I couldn't shake the feeling that she knew something about my father's secret but decided to stay mute.
