(Cole’s POV)I whimper softly as the harsh pain of my injuries is the only thing that tells me I’m even alive. I start moving cautiously, slowly trying to acclimate myself to my surroundings. My eyes are swollen shut and my jaw is wired shut for the fourth time in my life. Genius, I’m blind and mute. My whimpers increase as I feel the weight of a cast that covers my arm from the palm of my hand and up over my left elbow. My right arm is a little better but not by much. A shorter plastic brace covers that arm, falling just below my elbow. “Easy, Cole.” A slightly recognizable voice speaks to me but I’m unable to place who it is. “You are significantly injured. You had a hard three day fight in the hospital before we could safely move you to my house. “There are many reasons that I refused to leave you at General this time but I think the best way for you to understand is starting at the beginning. When you were dumped the only thing you were wearing was a pair of boxers. Your face was so bloody and swollen that when you arrived at the hospital not even Alex recognized you. He took a blood sample once he got the IV in your ankle. I was shocked when he called me later that morning wanting me to attend a private meeting. Emily, take a seat on the bed. I would like you to help keep him calm. Although these medications help his pain they also cause him to feel a lot of burning.” I whimper lightly as the bed dips beside me. I’ve had no relationship, no personal interaction with you since being promoted to lead doctor of the medical wing, but that didn’t prevent me from noticing the different, painfully different life you lived considering you’re the alpha’s son. (Jon Jenkins POV)It’s been a month since Jamison returned to Red Fang from the White Ridge pack. Alpha Redmen hasn’t approached Jamie about the next run so he’s been training with me, both as a warrior and a carpenter. When he’s not busy with training he’s looking for Cole. We’re all worried sick as we haven’t seen or heard from him since Jamie left him after his seizure. I’ve tried to link with him several times. “He stumbled upon several male prospects kidnapping and assaulting a female prospect who was in heat. He tracked them down to some cabins that were created when the pack was at war with rogues who were testing the validity of the pack’s strength. Cameras are not in all the cabins but the one they used happened to have one. Alpha Black used the footage to figure out who the kidnappers were and which one struck Cole. I think he said it appeared to be a baseball bat. Everyone except Cole, my mate and I got sent home about two weeks later.” “So the run was completely canceled? For what?” “All hell broke loose. Even though Cole’s intervention in the cabin allowed the girl to get away, after they broke his arm, two of the three kidnappers chased after her. Three or four different males went crazy from the smell of her in heat and they all attacked and actually raped her. Jamie is in tears by the time he finishes telling Demetri of this odd connection. “I’m sorry you experienced that. Has it ever happened before or after that one time?” “No sir. Dad and I have tried to link with him since it happened but he simply pushes it away. His room is locked up, which is unusual considering the kids that use it as a sanctuary. I have no way of verifying where he is but based on what I felt Kristoph wasn’t simply hitting him, he was using an object to break him.” I hurry to Jamie’s side as he sobs. He hasn’t been able to speak of what happened since he woke up. I take the phone from his hand and place it gently beside us before pulling him into a long hug. “Take my hand, bud. We’re going in the other room for a little talk.” I’m surprised when he doesn’t fight my request. He places his hand in mine but the resistance that comes from him not moving stops me from moving forward. “Daddy, it hurts. It hurts and I’m scared. He’s going to do it again until I learn how to lie. Until I tell him what he wants the council to hear.” His tears are silent as they roll down his cheeks. I sigh hard as hearing that he’s hurting bad enough to not want to move is disturbing to say the least. I crouch down in front of him, using my thumbs to wipe his tears. I can’t begin to describe the depths to which my heart has dropped hearing my little boy’s cry for help. “I need to see. I need you to pull down your pants.” He shakes his head side to side as his tears continue to fall. “Please, daddy.
