I wondered just why Elora, whom I knew had been Audrey’s best friend before and had betrayed her, came to speak with me alone. I trusted her not a bit, yet I was willing to give her the audience she requested.

Audrey had told me stories of how their friendship had been strong until she found out Jacob had cheated on her with her best friend. After that they had worked together to get her out of the picture and Elora who was supposed to be her best friend took sides with Jacob to get rid of her.
