Kai:

“Where are you going this early?” Mom asked, shaking her head in question.

Irina was in the room, getting ready for the two of us to go out while I beat her on the fact of heading down the stairs, choosing to trust her word.

“You didn’t bother coming to breakfast, and now you seem to be ready to go out. And I am guessing, judging by the fact that you worked with Viktor in the office, that you aren’t going to work.” She said, raising an eyebrow at me. I looked my mother in the eye, trying my best to find the right words that would fit what I was supposed to say without hurting her.

“I didn’t come to breakfast as it seems to me that my wife wouldn’t be welcomed over. As for where I am going, you never bothered to ask me where I was heading when I went out. Why now?” I asked, keeping my tone calm.

“I believe that you know, as well as you know your name, Kai, my reason. Now, where are you going?” She asked, repeating her question.
