RHYS

The scent of vanilla and cinnamon was like a punch in the gut. My whole world changed in an instant. I’d spent all this time since I saw Rae again thinking I could walk away, thinking I could hand her back to Connor once I cleared my name.

But when she stepped into the lobby, and Connor’s heart skipped a beat at the sight of her, I admitted I’d been lying to myself.

I’d just come to terms that she was mine.

But this was playing out like it was six years ago all over again.

Connor’s heart raced, but Rae didn’t take her eyes off me. Her eyes flashed at me in defiance, even as I sensed several mixed emotions in her. My fury raged. Why the hell didn’t she listen to me? Why had she come back when I told her of the danger?

Raechel brushed past me, still not breaking eye contact, and walked into the open elevator.

‘The fuck have you just done?’ I growled in my head as the elevator doors closed.
