Chapter 104
“Ah, Mister Marshall. I’m glad you could make it so quickly. Please, have a seat so we can chat.” A man’s voice says from behind us.
I turn around to see Doctor Zhang standing there with a tall, thin man who has short, curly blonde hair and brown eyes. The man looks like he is in his late twenties or early thirties.
“Who’s this?” I stand defensively in front of Zara’s bed.
“This is Doctor Asclepius. He has been a consultant with us for a couple of weeks now.” Doctor Zhang motions to the other man. “I’ve asked him to evaluate Zara.”
“Please call me Ace.” The man speaks with a Greek accent and puts his hand out for me to shake. “I spoke with Miss Wilson briefly before she fell asleep, and I would like to discuss her case with you.”
He pulls a chair out and motions for me to sit down. I look down at the chair hesitantly, then back at him. He has a reassuring grin that somehow makes me feel better. “Okay, what did she say?”

When we are halfway down the hall, I look over and see Mom also has Jasper pinched by the tricep as well. He is wincing in pain, but not trying to get away from her. My mind churns, thinking about all the assignments I need to catch up on, but wanders back to my dream with Clotho and Lachesis. Time turns into a blur of events. Mom comes in and takes Dad out of the room. When they come back, Dad is no longer covered in blood. Jasper sits next to me and puts his hand on my shoulder while I rock Zara in my lap. Mom tries to tell me something, but I don’t hear what she’s saying. I close my eyes and hold my sweet little mate close to my chest. The noise in the room fades away until all that’s left are Zara’s whimpers. I open my eyes and look around. The sun is almost set. Zara and I are the only ones in the room. People are in other parts of the condo speaking to each other. I look down at my sweet little mate. She’s awake, leaning against me with silent tears streaking down her face. “It’s going to be okay, Pocket.” I kiss her forehead and rub her back. “We will bring her back.” “No.” She shakes her head, looking into the distance. “What do you mean, ‘no’?” I sit her up and make her look at me. “Zara, we can help you. We’ll get Lavender back.”
